Fall Block Party planned for Wednesday

STEUBENVILLE -- The Summer Block Party hosted by the Sycamore Youth Center and the AIM Women's Center was such a success, that the two nonprofit agencies have decided to do it once again.

A Fall Block Party consisting of fellowship, entertainment and a variety of foods, will take place from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesday at the women's center, located at 248 N. Fifth St.

Should there be inclement weather on Wednesday, the event will be held at the Sycamore center's fellowship hall, located at 301 N. Fourth St.

"After the amazing success of our summer bash, we are bringing back the fun," stated Bobbyjon Bauman, executive director of Sycamore. "The event not only was a resounding success, but it showcased the community's spirit and highlighted the generosity and teamwork that made it possible."

The fall event will feature live performances by hip-hop artists J.R. Lawrence Lewis of Steubenville, CBE 180 of Weirton, MoTruth of Pittsburgh, Elisha "Platinum" Fletcher and a special performance by the Steubenville High School drumline at 5 p.m.

Bauman explained the block party will have a Kids' Fun Zone for children in attendance.

There will be free face paintings by the Sycamore Corps service group, a foam party provided by Screwy Louie's Party Rentals and many fall activities.

Foods available will include hamburgers, hot dogs, drinks and more.

Bauman noted during the summer event, there were approximately 300 community residents in attendance, and more than 150 hamburgers and 400 hot dogs were consumed.

"We can't wait to see you there for an afternoon of fun and community," Bauman concluded. "Spread the word."

Cohen-Morris and Bauman exclaimed they hope to hold four block parties every year, one for each season. And on Wednesday, they will be halfway to their goal.

"This is a fantastic way to engage with the community and show our dedication to enriching the lives of our youth and families," Bauman concluded.
