Harding Middle preparing for 500 at trunk-or-treat
STEUBENVILLE — Harding Middle School will hold its second-annual trunk-or-treat event from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday in the school parking lot.
The event is for fifth- and sixth-graders at the school.
Sixth-grade teacher Tracy Ziarko is a leader on the Parent/Family Involvement Solutions Team. She explained parents and staff members will decorate the trunks of their cars and hand out treats to children who are dressed in costumes.
“We have games and activities run by staff members and food trucks will be in attendance,” she said.
“We are anticipating 400 to 500 students and their younger siblings,” she continued. “The purpose of this event is to have parental and community involvement.”
Approximately 30 cars are expected to participate in the trunk-or-treat portion of the afternoon, Ziarko stated.
In addition, the Steubenville Police Department and the city’s fire department are scheduled to have their vehicles on site and will pass out treats to Halloweeners.
Food trucks that will be in attendance include Kona Ice and Desperado Dogs.
“We are expecting more students in attendance and adding more trunks — especially from the community,” Ziarko said.
Activities and treats will be free of charge, she noted, adding those ordering anything off of the food trucks will be charged.
Assisting Ziarko in this year’s planning of the event were teachers Shanley Demitras and Cierra Jones. School counselor Shay Greiner and Assistant Principal Jennifer Agresta also assisted, along with Principal Bryan Mills.
