The Indian Creek Sycamore Stars had its first community partnership meeting last week. The gathering included a VentureLab lesson, career fields and a focus on top three career interests. Guests included Darin and Jamie Heavilin of Printeesweet; Mark Nelson of Nelson's Fine Art and Gifts; and Connie Moore from Trinity Health System's medical and health laboratories. Steubenville Police Chief Kenny Anderson and Stephanie Sauver from Belmont Radiology were presenters the following day, officials noted. The Heavilins spoke about how they started their business, which makes screen-printed shirts, and how they work together as a husband and wife team in business. Nelson shared how his family started to make the nutcrackers for the city of Steubenville, of which they have made more than 200 to date. Moore shared how she enjoys working in a lab and how she has done so for more than two decades. Bobbyjon Bauman, program manager for the Sycamore Stars program at Indian Creek High School, announced he "is thrilled that the students were able to hear from four business owners about how to start and run a successful business. The event opened up new vistas to them concerning career pathways they otherwise may not have had the opportunity to explore," he added.
