American Legion to hold breakfast
STEUBENVILLE -- The American Legion Post 33 Auxiliary will hold a veterans breakfast and bake sale from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday at the post, located at 808 N. Fifth St.
Veterans of Post 33 will receive a free breakfast, with the menu consisting of scrambled eggs, sausage, homefries and pancakes. The cost will be $8 for all others. Proceeds will help support the Legion's annual Christmas party for local disabled veterans.
Church to hold flag-raising
WEIRTON -- New Life Church in Weirton will hold a flag-raising ceremony following its Sunday morning services.
Organizers stated at approximately 12:15 p.m., the ceremony will take place, with the public invited to attend. Among those representing the city will be local police and firefighters. The honor guard will give a reading and the meaning behind the folding of the flag, followed by a 21-gun salute.
Veteran's association to hold service
SMITHFIELD -- The Jefferson County Veterans Association will hold its Veterans Day service at 3 p.m. Monday at Friendship Park's Memorial Wall in Smithfield.
Commander John Kafanna will serve as master of ceremonies. The guest speaker will be Julie Stenger, community editor for the Herald-Star and The Weirton Daily Times.
The public is invited to attend. Those attending are asked to bring a chair should services be held outdoors. Doughnuts and coffee will be served in the 4-H building following the service.
Church to hold Veterans Day dinner
STEUBENVILLE -- Bell Chapel United Methodist Church, located at 319 state Route 213 in Steubenville, will host a Veterans Day dinner for all veterans from 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.
Seven Ranges to meet
WINTERSVILLE -- The Seven Ranges Joint Fire District will meet at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the 911 board room, located at 300 Airport Road in Wintersville.
Cookie Walk set
WEIRTON -- St. Joseph the Worker Grade School will hold a Christmas Cookie Walk from 10 a.m. to noon Dec. 7 in the cafeteria, located on Michael Way.
Ladylocks, caramel cups, peanut butter balls and other types of cookies will be sold for $10 per dozen. The fundraiser will benefit the teachers of St. Joseph's.
An Evening of scouting values set
WHEELING -- The 2024 Distinguished Citizen Dinner, which brings together community leaders and philanthropists to support Scouting America in the Ohio Valley, will be held Thursday at Wheeling Park White Palace. Sponsored by West Virginia University of Medicine, the evening's speaker will be Gordon Gee. An online silent auction promising exclusive items will be held as a fundraiser.
"We're thrilled to bring this event back to support an important cause, empowering young people to become tomorrow's community leaders and good corporate citizens," stated Melissa Reinbold, district director.
Church to hold Christmas Bazaar
BRILLIANT -- The Brilliant United Methodist Church will hold its annual Christmas Bazaar from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Dec. 14 in the fellowship hall of the church, located at 525 LaBelle St.
Among the items to sold will be cookies, nut rolls, fudge and crafts.
