St. Lucy’s Day
A special folk dance performance will be given in recognition of St. Lucy’s Day at 7 p.m. Friday inside the Steubenville Catholic Central High School auditorium. The event will feature the Sycamore Folk Dancers and the music of Faire May. The performance will showcase traditional dances and music from countries including Germany, Hungary and Sweden. All of the performers, who range in age from 7 to young adults, will be wearing Germanic folk costumes as they present dances which they have learned to master, officials announced. St. Lucy’s Day celebrations are a long-standing tradition in several European nations, with this show preparing to light up the city’s Advent in a unique and fun way, organizers stated. The performance is free of charge and open to all local residents of all ages.
