Top Indian Creek spellers

Kaden Haddox, a sixth-grader at Indian Creek Middle School, placed first in the Indian Creek Local School District Spelling Bee held Jan. 14 at Indian Creek Middle School. Haddox correctly spelled “skiff,” a noun meaning a small boat, especially a flat-bottomed rowboat, to claim the win. Taking part in the awards ceremony were, from left, front, Haddox; and David Reaume, a sixth-grader at Indian Creek Middle School, second; and back, Superintendent T.C. Chappelear; Ryder Geary, a fifth-grader at Indian Creek Middle School, third; Anthony Riley, an eighth-grader at Indian Creek Middle School, fourth; Jolene Barcalow, a fifth-grader at Indian Creek Middle School, fifth; Ethan Vergona, a seventh-grader at Indian Creek Middle School, alternate; and Todd Herman, district spelling bee coordinator. The top five spellers and alternate will advance to the Jefferson-Harrison County Regional Spelling Bee, presented by the Herald-Star, at 11 a.m. March 8 at Buckeye North Elementary School in Brilliant.
