Braeden Record, an eighth-grader at Toronto Junior-Senior High School, placed first in the Toronto City School District Spelling Bee held Wednesday at Toronto Junior-Senior High School. Record correctly spelled “impeccable,” an adjective meaning faultless, or in accordance with the highest standards of propriety, to claim his win. Taking part in the awards ceremony were, from left, front, Record; Braylin Potts, a seventh-grader at Toronto Junior-Senior High School, second place; Jonah Fogle, a seventh-grader at Toronto Junior-Senior High School, third; McKenna Bentley, a fifth-grader at Toronto Elementary School, fourth; Griffin Pearce, an eighth-grader at Toronto Junior-Senior High School, fifth; and Blake Wilson, an eighth-grader at Toronto Junior-Senior High School, alternate; and back, Justin Wiley, district spelling bee coordinator; Superintendent Maureen Taggart; Annie Silverthorn, principal at Toronto Elementary School; and Betsy Jones, principal at Toronto Junior-Senior High School. The top five spellers and alternate will advance to the Jefferson-Harrison County Regional Spelling Bee, presented by the Herald-Star, at 11 a.m. March 8 at Buckeye North Elementary School in Brilliant.
