Elks Lodge to hold fish fry
WELLSBURG -- Officials with the Wellsburg Elks Lodge 1553, located at 834 Charles St., announced they will hold a Friday Fish Fry every Friday through the Lenten season.
Foods will be sold from 10:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. each Friday. Dine-in or carryout options are available for guests.
The menu will consist of a fish dinner for $13, a fish sandwich for $9, shrimp dinner for $13 or a shrimp basket for $9. A cod nugget dinner will cost $13 or cog nuggets will be sold for $9.
All dinners include either macaroni and cheese or french fries and coleslaw.
Other menu items include: A crispy chicken sandwich, $7, chicken tenders, $6; and various side dishes.
French fries will be $4; mac and cheese, $4; onion rings, $6; cheese sticks, $6; zucchini strips, $6; haluski, $4; pierogies, $4; coleslaw, $1; and assorted Coke products, Pepsi products or water will cost $1 each.
Desserts to be offered include chocolate sheet cake and peanut butter sheet cake, at the cost of $2 a piece.

Mah jongg played at library
WELLSBURG -- Those who enjoy the game mah jongg, or who would like to learn to play the game involving tiles, are invited to the Brooke County Public Library from 1 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. every Friday.
Those who have their own tiles are welcome to bring them, officials noted.
No reservations are required.

Fundraising breakfast Saturday
UNIONPORT -- A breakfast will be held at the Wayne Township Community Center in Unionport from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. Saturday. The meal will include pancakes and sausage, sausage gravy and biscuits, toast and assorted beverages.
The cost for the breakfast will be through donation only. Proceeds raised through the fundraiser will be used to help with the center's upkeep, according to officials.
Special play for preschoolers
WELLSBURG -- Parents and guardians of children ages 6 and younger, are invited to bring their children to the Brooke County Public Library between 10:30 a.m. and noon every Saturday for the purpose of using toys and games that promote hand-eye coordination and a basic understanding of science, engineering, art and math concepts.
Parents are encouraged to assist their children with the toys, which will be set up and taken down by a library volunteer.
No registration is required.

Veterans commission to meet
STEUBENVILLE -- The regular monthly meeting of the Veterans Service Commission of Jefferson County will take place at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday. The meeting will be held at 500 Market St., Suite 310. All veterans and interested parties are welcome to attend, officials said.
Library to screen films
WELLSBURG -- The Brooke County Public Library will show the PG-rated animated film "Moana 2," at 5 p.m. Thursday. The PG-13-rated film "Reagan," starring Dennis Quaid as the former president, will be shown at noon on March 14.
Attendees are welcome to bring a lunch to the noon screening.
Popcorn and water will be provided at both showings.

Soup and sweet sale set
MINGO JUNCTION -- Harmony Church of Mingo Junction will hold a soup and sweet sale from noon to 1 p.m. on March 15. The church is located at 2119 Commercial Ave.
Officials will be selling soups by the quart, including vegetable soup and bean soup. Soups will be available for pickup during that one hour timeframe, officials stated. To place an order or for information, contact Jim McClung at (740) 535-0730.
Indoor flea market planned
EAST SPRINGFIELD -- The outreach group Let's Fight Together will host an indoor flea market from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. March 15 at the East Springfield Community Center.
The center is located by the East Springfield Fire Department on county Road 39.
Several vendors will be in attendance selling a variety of items, officials stated.
Various foods will be for sale, as well, including cabbage and noodles, maccaroni and cheese, barbecued ham sandwiches, hot dogs, pasta salad and drinks.
Cake and jerky will be sold during the event, with proceeds going to support the Let's Fight Together outreach group.
A "bang bang" drawing will be held to support area resident Justus Journey, who is preparing to receive a kidney transplant, according to organizers.
The community is invited to attend the event.
