Seven Ranges to meet
WINTERSVILLE — Seven Ranges Joint Fire District will meet in regular session at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the 911 Center, located at 300 Airport Road in Wintersville.
Local events mark Maple Days
WELLSBURG — As part of West Virginia Maple Days, a celebration of the state’s maple producers, a local farm and an area park will be holding special events throughout the day on Saturday.
Family Roots Farm, located on state Route 27 and Genteel Ridge Road, will welcome visitors to see how maple syrup and sugar are made within its Sugar Shack.
The event will take place from 9 a.m. to noon. Guests can tour the outdoor area at 11 a.m. and learn how the sapwater that is needed for its various products is collected from trees.
Owned by seven generations of the Hervey family, the 250-year-old farm has been used in recent years to produce a variety of condiments and treats containing maple syrup and sugar.

Near the Sugar Shack, on state Route 27, Brooke Hills Park will be hosting a maple-themed dinner at 6 p.m.
Prepared by chef Brian Magliochette of the Sarah Miller House bed and breakfast, the meal will include maple dijon chicken, mashed potatoes, maple-glazed carrots, maple cream sweet potato soup and maple bacon bites.
The cost will be $45. Reservations can be made by calling (304) 737-1236.
Senior center to offer VA rides
FOLLANSBEE — The Brooke County Senior Center is offering transportation to veteran health care facilities in Pittsburgh.
Rides are given on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays.
Transportation is given to the St. Clairsville facility on Thursdays.
Veterans should call (304) 527-3410, Ext. 2, as soon as they are booked for an appointment to arrange a ride.
Seniors who are not veterans can receive assistance with transportation to medical appointments by calling the center.
Senior center offering activities
FOLLANSBEE — The Brooke County Senior Center, located at 948 Main St., is offering a variety of free activities for senior citizens.
Among the activities are drumming through the use of large rubber balls, which is held from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. every Tuesday and Thursday.
Bingo is held from noon to 3 p.m. every Wednesday and Friday. Monthly trips to Steubenville for shopping purposes also is offered.
The center provides lunch for seniors at 11:30 a.m. Monday through Friday. Meals can be delivered to those who are shut in, officials said.
