Gem City seeking to beautify area

TORONTO -- A local volunteer group is again seeking donations to help replace and refurbish the U.S. flags displayed along city streets. Members are accepting orders for its annual flower sale, as well, which supports its beautification efforts.

Each year, the Toronto Beautification Committee makes an appeal for monetary donations for the flags, which hang above North Fourth and Third streets, along with other areas of the city.

Donations of $20 are requested, though all are appreciated, officials said. Donations can be made payable to TBC, and sent to Mary Beth Robertson at 905 North Third St., Toronto, OH 43964.

It's a busy time for the group, as members are selling geraniums to raise money for flowers and other beautification measures. The flowers will be located at the north and south entrances to the city, Liberty Square along North Fourth Street and the Gazebo Commons area on North Third Street.

Flowers are $4.50 each, and available in red, white, dark pink, salmon, coral and light pink.

Order forms can be found at the Toronto Subway, Toronto Apothecary, Kitch's Kitchen, Toronto Post Office and Tri B's Coffee Shop. Forms should be returned to P.O. Box 102, Toronto, OH 43964 by April 21.

Robertson noted the flowers will be available for pickup between 10 a.m. and noon May 10, the day before Mothers Day, across from Valley Converting on North Fourth Street.
