Church to hold luncheon
BRILLIANT — The Brilliant United Methodist Church will hold its Election Day luncheon from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. May 6 at the church. Soup, sandwiches and desserts will be available. Patrons can dine in or carry out their orders.
Cooking club to meet

Evening story hour set
WELLSBURG — The Brooke County Public Library will hold an evening story hour at 5 p.m. Wednesday.
Sponsored by WesBanco in observance of Smart Money Week, the hour will include a piggy bank craft and snacks. Snacks will be provided by the United Way of the Upper Ohio Valley. Roundtable to meet
WHEELING — Author and Gettysburg battlefield guide Chris Bagley, will serve as guest lecturer during the Ohio Valley Civil War roundtable meeting, scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Ohio County Public Library auditorium in Wheeling.
The lecture is free and open to the public. Individuals interested in Civil War history are welcome to join the roundtable. Annual family fees are $20 per year. For information, contact Roger Micker at (304) 312-7559.
Christian mothers to hold card party
WEIRTON — St. Joseph the Worker Church Christian Mothers will hold a card party at 2 p.m. Sunday in the grade school’s gymnasium. Doors will open at 1 p.m. Tickets are $10 and will not be sold at the door. To purchase a ticket, call Barbara Reynolds at (304) 723-9772.
Ukulele program at library
TORONTO — Inspire Toronto is offering a children’s ukulele program at the Toronto Library.
Three sessions have been held, with the next running from 10:30 a.m. to noon Saturday. The final session will take place May 3, according to officials. The activity includes installing tuners and strings to ukuleles and the possibility of some practice.
Community Clean Up on Thursday
WINTERSVILLE — Cross Creek Township, in conjunction with the JB Green Team, will hold a Community Clean Up Day from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday at the Township Garage, located at 1267 Cadiz Road in Wintersville.
The garage will be accepting large and bulk household junk items, including non-freon appliances, furniture, gardening tools, grills, carpeting and large plastic toys. Residents can bring standard car tires, as well as light truck tires. Tire requirements are less than 54 inches in height and 16 inches in width, and having no heavy accumulation of water or dirt.
The garage can not accept any type of mattress or box spring, electronics, paints, liquids or hazardous waste. Garbage will not be accepted, nor will leaves, construction materials, demolition materials or household batteries.
Car show planned for June
NEW CUMBERLAND — The Brooke Hancock Family Resource Network and Revolution CC will present a Cruise for the Community car show June 7 at the New Cumberland Fire Department, located at 301 N. Chester St. A rain date of June 28 has been set.
Registration will begin at noon. The show is set for 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. All proceeds will benefit programs at the BHFRN.
All vehicles are welcome to participate, officials stated. The afternoon will include food and drinks, a Chinese auction, a 50/50 drawing, vendors, door prizes for participants, children-friendly activities, music and best in show awards.
Early bird registration is being held through May 15 at the cost of $10. Early registration includes two door prize tickets and a hot dog and drink. Pupils raise money for AHA
BERGHOLZ — John Gregg Elementary pupils jumped rope for the American Heart Association during the 2025 Kids’ Heart JUMP Challenge. Physical education teacher Kari Byers stated 163 children performed a series of jump rope activities, raising $5,119 for the organization.
“The students did individual jumps, a three-team long jump and a fun partner jump,” Byers explained.
Top jumpers in each class included Sawyer Scardina, first grade; Hailey Vahalic, second grade; Nieko Potkrajac, third; Paige Gump, fourth; Brea Moses, fifth; and Bryson Moses, sixth.
Top team jumpers included first-graders Ava Webb, Izabella Hudson and Era Biles; second-graders Emma Gump, Rosalyn Kepner and Ariana Hobbs; third-graders Harmony Wells, Brilie Grimes, Malaya Redovian and Aeriana Woods; fourth-graders Paige Gump, Julia Crawford and Bree Hilderbrand; fifth-graders Christopher Mase, Greyson Fages and Cyden Wood; and sixth-graders Briar Bendle, Carson Ensinger and Casher Dopp.
Top fundraisers were Isabel Wood, Brayden McConnell, Nolan Hendershott, Aurora Pesta and E.J. Toole. Pupils received prizes for each level of funding raised, including keychains, T-shirts and toys. Proceeds went toward education and research.
