Hancock County competes

The John D. Rockefeller Career Center transported 30 students from Hancock County to Fairmont, W.Va., to participate in the state SkillsUSA competition. More than 800 students attended from throughout West Virginia. Of the 30 students, 17 brought home medals. Those receiving gold medals included, Cody Cocquit, auto tool ID; Megan Gaston, nursing assistant; Sam Jenkins and Lucas Zoellers, Carpentry I; and Alex Guio, Wyatt Hostuttler and Riley Straight, community service. Silver medal winners included Austin Bailey, construction tool ID; Landon Southall, photography; and Emma Bittinger, Ayden Linger and Maria Stefansky, career showcase. Bronze medal winners included Kaydence Cain, prepared speech; McKenzi Martin, health occupation professional portfolio; Sara Cain, Carpentry I; Greg Peters, action skills; and Hayden Six, diesel technology. Students were escorted by faculty members Howard Icard, auto technology; Thomas Davis, carpentry; Wendy DeAngelis, theraputics; Chris Enochs, center director; Steve Flowers, welding; Jim Luevano, diesel technology; Jeanne Pellegrino, coordinator vocational services; LaDonna Smith, theraputics; and Elizabeth Walsh, SillsUSA adviser and graphic design.
