Toronto Sunrise Seniors discuss trips
TORONTO — The Toronto Sunrise Seniors met at Karaffa Recreation Center March 28, with President Barbara Pritts welcoming members to the meeting.
Mary Lou Emery gave the blessing for the meal that featured chicken and fish. Following dinner, the group thanked the kitchen committee through a round of applause. The committee consisted of Frank Marino, Marlene Garrett, and Betty and Rex Mossor.
Following the reciting of the Pledge of Allegiance, Secretary Karen Martin read the minutes of the previous meeting and conducted the roll call of officers. Martin then provided the financial report.
Pritts announced the resignation of Co-treasurer Judy Sabol and asked those in attendance to consider Lynn Miller as her replacement. The group unanimously voted to support Miller’s role as co-treasurer. Social Secretary Mary Ann Landerfield informed members of the Senior Expo scheduled to take place from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. May 21 at the YMCA Wellness Center at the St. John Arena.
Landerfield congratulated those celebrating a birthday or anniversary in March. The health report was announced by Landerfield, who noted the kitchen committee for April will include Lucy Timko, Gloria Boley, Jerry Cornish and Carol Rogers.
Vice President Sandi Radvansky distributed information regarding a bus trip to the Lincoln School of Performing Arts in Midland on June 29 to see “Sister Act.” Dinner will be held at the Golden Corral restaurant in Robinson Township, and is included in the price of a ticket for $50 for members and $60 for non-members. The trip is open to any senior citizen. Information can be obtained by calling Radvansky at (740) 317-9088.
Candi Murphy was recognized as the member of the month. Murphy commented to the audience that she is proud of raising her children and grandchildren, remembers when a hurricane spoiled a summer vacation she had planned and enjoys listening to country music.
The activity for the evening was playing “The Price is Right.” Pritts displayed and described five grocery items in great detail, encouraging members to guess the cost of the items. The person closest to the actual retail price without going over won the grocery item. Winners were Emery, Martin, Mary Ann Cordier, Miller, Ken Emery and Brenda Fetty.
The winners of the 50/50 drawing were Garrett and Joe Radvansky. Following brag time and three spring riddles, the meeting was adjourned. Those in attendance played bingo, with Joe Radvansky calling the numbers. Winners included Marino, Bea Lytle, Don Pritts, Paul Sherwood, Mary Jane Tottka, Mossor, Dave DeVore, Joyce Gribben and Paulette Reed.
Club officials stated anyone interested in joining the group can attend the meetings at the Karaffa center. One must be an Ohio resident and 55 or older to join.
