Auxiliary to hold wreath service
STEUBENVILLE -- The Steubenville American Legion Unit No. 33 Auxiliary will hold its Memorial Day celebration for deceased American veterans at 1 p.m. May 25 at the Steubenville marina.
Officials will throw a wreath into the Ohio River to pay tribute to those veterans who have died. The public is invited to attend this tribute.
Church to hold all-abilities silent disco
WINTERSVILLE -- Crossroads Christian Church and Special Connections are teaming up to host an all-abilities-friendly silent disco from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. May 30 at the church, located at 110 Springdale Ave. in Wintersville.
The free event is designed for those with sensory issues. Attendees will be presented with wireless headphones to use so they can enjoy music their own way. Participants can dance or simply listen to the music. For information, call (740) 264-9679 between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m.
JCVA to hold Memorial Day service
SMITHFIELD -- Members of the Jefferson County Veterans Association will hold their annual Memorial Day program at 3 p.m. May 26 at Friendship Park's Memorial Wall in Smithfield.
The JCVA is commemorating the 30-year anniversay of its founding by World War II and Korean War veterans.
During the program, the JCVA finance officer will give a brief history about the association, after which officials will award a $500 scholarship to a Catholic Central High School student who wrote the winning essay entitled, "What Memorial Day Means to Me."
The winner will be announced during the program. Sheriff Fred Abdalla Jr. will transport the four student finalists from Catholic Central to Friendship Park, where CCHS Principal Thomas Graham will sing the national anthem and speak on Memorial Day's beginning.
The four students will read their essays. Taps will be played, followed by a rifle salute to conclude the service.
Attendees are asked to bring along a chair. In case of inclement weather, the program will be held inside the 4-H building. Refreshments will be served, courtesy of Tim Hortons in Steubenville.
Rosemont Chapel to hold VBS
STEUBENVILLE -- Rosemont Chapel will hold Vacation Bible School June 16-20. The event will take place daily from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Those between the ages of 6 and 18 are welcome to attend.
Officials are asking the community to come and join its glowing party, as this year's theme will be "Glowing with Christ."
An adult class will be held during the same time for anyone interested in attending. The chapel is located at 23 Williams Blvd. in Steubenville.
