Final two auditions to be held at Brooke Hills

WELLSBURG — Wellsburg resident Chelsey Barnhart announced the Brooke Hills Playhouse will conclude its auditions process for the 54th season beginning at 10 a.m. June 14. The director announced auditions will be for the children’s show “The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe.” This dramatization of C. S. Lewis’s classic work recreates the magic and mystery of Aslan, the great lion, his struggle with the White Witch and the adventures of four children who inadvertently wander from an old wardrobe, into the never-to-be-forgotten Narnia.

Children and adults are encouraged to audition for a variety of roles, such as Aslan, the king of Narnia; the White Witch, Narnia’s evil queen; Peter Pevensie, noble and courageous oldest child; Susan Pevensie, the beautiful, sweet, kind second oldest child; Edmund Pevensie, the spiteful, mean, third oldest child; Lucy Pevensie, the curious and happy-go-lucky youngest child; Tumnus, a faun; Mr. and Mrs. Beaver, forest animals; a unicorn and centaur, forest animals; Fenris Ulf, a wolf who is head of the Witch’s secret police; Dwarf, a servant of the witch; Father Christmas, a bringer of gifts; White Stag, an elusive omen of good fortune; Aslan’s followers, forest animals; Witch’s army, evil villains; and Wood Nymphs, stage helpers.

Auditions consist of improvisations, theater games and cold readings from the script. Weirton resident Bill Deerfield will hold auditions at noon for “Always a Bridesmaid,” written by Jessie Jones, Nicholas Hope and Jamie Wooten. The comedic romp centers on four friends who swore to keep a promise they made on the night of their senior prom: To be in each other’s weddings — no matter what. More than 30 years later, these Southern friends-for-life are still making “the long walk” for each other, determined to honor that vow. Characters include Kari Ames-Bissette, a kind-hearted, spirited Southern charmer in her 20s; Libby Ruth Ames, a hopeless romantic who is a sweet, plainspoken and guileless country woman in her late 40s; Sedalia Ellicott, a gregarious, energetic Virginia hostess and life force in her 60s; Monette Gentry, a Southern-to-the-bone flirt in her late 40s who is kind of flashy and kind of trashy; Charlie Collins, a tree-hugging and Birkenstock-wearing acerbic Southern free spirit in her late 40s; and Deedra Wingate, a headstrong, no-nonsense Northern transplant in her late 40s with a dry wit.

Auditions will consist of cold readings from the script. Performance dates for “The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe,” will be Aug. 1-3 and Aug. 8-10. Performance dates for “Always a Bridesmaid,” are Aug. 22-24 and Aug. 29-31.
