Buckeye North Elementary School received some new additions to their attendance total, as baby chicks arrived inside the classroom of fifth-grade teacher Erin Best. Following a 21-day incubation period, 10 hatchlings made their way into the world. Best, a 4-H adviser, explained the longtime project included one of her students bringing in two unhatched eggs to include in the process. Some of the chicks hatched during the power outage which stemmed from the April 28 storm that hit the Ohio Valley. Teachers had to move the babies to safety, and several of the chicks were given weather-related names, including Stormy and Lightning. All of the chicks will find a home on a local farm, Best said.
