BERGHOLZ — Pupils and staff members at John Gregg Elementary School were treated to a Midweek Motivation session given by associate pastor Jonathan Naylor from Mount Pleasant Methodist Church in Carrollton. Prior to the day’s classes beginning, Naylor spoke to those gathered inside the music room and shared uplifting words from area pastors.

Music teacher Kathy Ramsey explained the Midweek Motivation sessions have been held every Wednesday from 8:15 a.m. to 8:40 a.m. for those interested. Approximately 20 to 30 people have gathered inside her classroom for the music and messages.

Ramsey stated she and school counselor Tiffany Moses had similar ideas about holding such an activity, and took them to Principal Tammy Burchfield, who approved the request. Sessions first began early March. The hope is to eventually open the activity up to the community.

“We meet for 25 minutes every Wednesday before school and have praise and worship music with community pastors and representatives from various churches in the area do a five-to-seven-minute Biblical principle lesson and prayer,” Ramsey commented. “About 30 staff members and their children attend. We’ve had as many as 32-34 people. The first day there were 20, and it has grown.”

Ramsey said the activity has been a positive addition to the school day and she hopes to see it open up to the community next year.

“I have gotten positive feedback,” she concluded. “I think everyone is excited to be here and the children are excited to see the pastors. It’s about all of us creating a good foundation for our children. It’s an uplifting midweek worship time.”
