The Jefferson County Prevention and Recovery Board recognized May 18 through Saturday as Emergency Medical Services Week, by passing a proclamation during its May 19 meeting. Toronto EMS Chief Clark Crago accepted a certificate on behalf of EMS agencies in Jefferson County. The slogan for EMS Week is "We Care. For Everyone." Crago stated EMS workers "do care for everyone," and he discussed positive results that have occurred locally in reducing overdose deaths. Prevention and Recovery Board Executive Director William Holt thanked Toronto EMS for being "a valuable partner in successful overdose prevention efforts" in the county and statewide. He highlighted they were the first to place a Naloxbox at a roadside rest area. Ohio now installs Naloxboxes in many rest areas throughout the state. Naloxboxes contain naloxone, which is used to reverse an opioid overdose.
