Libraries to close for holiday

The Brooke County Public Library in Wellsburg and the Follansbee Library will be closed today in recognition of West Virginia Day.

The library in Wellsburg will be reopen Saturday during normal business hours.

Strawberry Festival set for Saturday

WINTERSVILLE — The Wintersville Methodist Church will hold its annual Strawberry Festival from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday in the Center for Hope, located at 702 Main St. in Wintersville.

Among the foods to be served are sandwiches, salads, cabbage rolls, drinks and desserts such as strawberry shortcake and strawberry pie.

Dine in or carryout will be available. To place an order, call (740) 264-1676 during dining hours.

Dulci-More welcomes Bing Futch

SALEM — Dulci-More will host Bing Futch at 2:30 p.m. Saturday in the meeting room of the Dale Shaffer Research Library of the Salem Historical Society, located at 239 S. Lundy Ave. in Salem.

The concert will be followed by a song circle and jam session from 4:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. in the same location.

The public is welcome to attend and participate by bringing their own acoustic folk instruments and joining in the fun.

Parking is available in the municipal lot across the street from Lundy Avenue. The building is handicapped accessible and admission will be free of charge throughout the summer as a thank you gift from Dulci-More.

The gift was given in recognition of the summer concert series and all those who have supported the folk and traditional musicians throughout the years.

Strawberry Festival set for Sunday

MINGO JUNCTION — The St. Agnes Parish Catholic Women’s Club will hold its first Strawberry Festival from noon to 5 p.m. Sunday at Aracoma Park in Mingo Junction.

The festival will feature craft and vendor booths, along with food trucks, live music and plenty of everything strawberry, including doughnuts, cookies and shortcakes.

Dog event to be rescheduled

WINTERSVILLE — The Wintersville Beautification Committee has rescheduled its Suns Out, Tongues Out event that was set for Sunday at the Wintersville Dog Park.

According to organizers, the weather is expected to reach high temperatures. Officials commented they want to make sure all of the “fur babies remain safe” and kept in cooler conditions.

A makeup date has not been announced; however, the community will be notified once plans have been finalized.

Museum plans Sunday open house

RICHMOND – A series of open houses continues Sunday at the Crew House Museum, located at 34 W. Main St. in Richmond.

The event will run from noon to 4 p.m. and is hosted by the Richmond Community Historical Society. Admission is free, but donations, appreciated. Visitors can browse memorabilia that includes a second floor dedicated to items from Jefferson Union High School.

Humane society fundraiser planned

STEUBENVILLE — The Cedar One Charity Committee will sponsor its Hot Dogs for Homes fundraiser — a fundraiser to benefit the animals at the Jefferson County Humane Society — from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. June 28 at Bella Hall, located at 2728 Sunset Blvd.

Those attending will receive a free hot dog for their donation to the nonprofit organization.

The event will feature two live magic shows performed by Mysterio of Madhrikan’s Theater of Magic. There will be various activities available for children and pets. No RSVP is required.

Church to hold VBS

WEIRTON — Family of God Church, located at 128 Era St. in Weirton, will hold Vacation Bible School from 10:30 a.m. to noon every Sunday beginning June 29 through July 20.

This year’s theme will be “All Aboard the Jesus Train.” All children between the ages of 3 and 13 are welcome to attend.

Those participating will listen to Bible stories, make crafts, play games and have snacks. A picnic with the church congregation will be held at a park on the last Sunday of the VBS.

Book club to meet

WELLSBURG — The Brooke County Public Library Book Club will meet in-person and virtually at 5 p.m. Thursday to discuss David Baldacci’s “Simply Lies.” Participants will receive the book they will be discussing next month. Richmond church to host VBS

RICHMOND — Richmond Methodist Church, located at 112 S. Sugar St. in Richmond, will host its annual Vacation Bible School from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. July 14-18. The event is open to all children ages 4 through students who will be entering the eighth grade this fall. The theme of this year’s VBS will be “Road Trip — On the Go With God.” The outreach will include a meal, music, crafts and other activities.
