Toronto seniors planning picnic
TORONTO — Members of the Toronto Sunrise Seniors welcomed their former president, Susan Kulstad to the June 13 meeting held at the Karaffa Recreation Center. President Barbara Pritts introduced Kulstad, who has relocated to Colorado.
“Susan was president of this group for many years,” Pritts explained. “She is a talented artist who has had a major impact on the Toronto community.”
Kulstad painted a picture depicting a tour bus filled with senior citizens. The artwork now hangs in the club’s meeting room.
Co-chaplain Mary Lou Emery offered a blessing prior to the afternoon’s meal, which featured Hero sandwiches from Iggy’s restaurant. Once dinner was completed, the group recited the pledge, followed by Secretary Karen Martin conducting the roll call of officers and reading of the previous meeting’s minutes.
Treasurer Lynn Miller gave the financial report, stating the group had collected $280 for the Toronto Flag Fund, and noting a check will be sent to the mayor’s office in order for the new flags to be bought before the Fourth of July holiday.
Social Secretary Mary Ann Landerfield announced those celebrating a June birthday. Landerfield announced there will be an opportunity to participate in free bingo games at area nursing homes. Games will be held at the Carriage Inn today, the Laurels on Wednesday and Dixon’s Nursing Home Thursday.
Landerfield introduced the afternoon’s guest speaker, Michelle Howard, who represents Southern Care Hospice.
Howard shared information about hospice care and provided handouts to those interested.
Two gifts were donated to the group, including a patriotic basket that was won by Brenda Fetty, and a patriotic sign, won by Martin.
Pritts reminded those who have signed up to be part of a trip to see “Sister Act,” that the bus will leave the Red Knight stadium parking lot at noon on Saturday. A room will be available to relax prior to the show, Pritts noted. Following the performance, the bus will travel to Robinson Township and stop at the Golden Corral for a buffet dinner. The expected return time will be between 7 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.
Pritts informed members of those who will serve on the kitchen committee in July, including Pritts, Don Pritts, Judy Sabol, Jackie Collins and Mary Ann Cordier. The July 11 meeting will feature a picnic consisting of snack food at noon and several activities for participants. Dinner will be held at the regular time of 5 p.m.
The activity for the evening was a trivia quiz about the flag in recognition of Flag Day. Bea Lytle successfully answered the most questions and was presented with a gift card. The winners of the 50/50 drawing were Lucy Timko and Donna Farmer. Following announcements, brag time and the joke of the evening, the meeting was adjourned.
Members stayed to play bingo. Joe Radvansky called the numbers. The next meeting will be held at 5 p.m. Friday at Karaffa. The Toronto Sunrise Seniors welcomes any Ohio resident who is 55 years of age or older, to join the group.
