Art Association challenged to show
WINTERSVILLE — Artists affiliated with the Steubenville Art Association have been given a challenge. That challenge comes from the staff working for the Center of Music and Art in Wintersville.
Their mission … to present a GOAT Art Show. The artists’ reply? Challenge accepted.
No, the artists will not be creating paintings of those furry, grass-eating animals. And no, there will not be any goats on site which can be fed or petted throughout the show.
This particular reference pertains to GOAT, meaning each artist’s “Greatest of All Time” piece of art. Their masterpiece, if you will. At least, that is the plan.
SAA President Judy Schmidt explained the artists of the SAA will have the opportunity to present one piece of art from their collection.
But only one. For some, that decision may prove difficult. Many artists have created several dozen pieces of art, be it paintings, photos or drawings.
Some of their works have won awards. Some of their creations may just be a personal favorite and one that has not received any accolades from others.
The work which each selects, has to be the best they have ever done. The question remains … will they be able to do it? The challenge has already been accepted, and now comes an even-more difficult determination. Not only will the SAA members submit that one piece of which they are the most proud, but the center’s art instructors, Gerald Van Scyoc and Kennedy Conrad, will manage the show and jury all entries to see if they do indeed, meet the expertise the show commands.
“SAA members will have to decide the most impressive art they have ever done,” Schmidt stated. “So you can be assured that this event will be one of the best art shows ever given in this area.”
The GOAT show will be on display in the new art showroom inside the Center of Music and Art, located at 264 Main St. in Wintersville. The grand opening ceremony will be held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sept. 6. The public is invited to attend. The exhibition will run until Oct. 23. The art can be viewed during the center’s business hours, which are 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday. The goat receiving first place, along with those earning second and third places, will be awarded CMA gift cards. Many pieces from the show will be for sale, which is open to the public.
“We hope you will take some time and stop in at the Center of Music of Art to see the best of the best of the Steubenville Art Association,” Schmidt concluded. “Trust me, we have some really great talent here in the Ohio Valley.”
