WELLSBURG — The Brooke Hills Playhouse will feature its upcoming performance “9 to 5 the Musical,” July 11-13 and July 18-20. Based on the 1980 hit movie that is set in the late ’70s, this “hilarious story of friendship and revenge in the Rolodex era is outrageous and thought-provoking,” playhouse officials commented.
Pushed to the boiling point, three female coworkers concoct a plan to get even with their sexist, egotistical, lying, hypocritical bigot of a boss, Franklin Hart.
In a hilarious turn of events, employees Violet, Judy and Doralee live out their wildest fantasy — giving their the boss the boot.
While Hart remains “otherwise engaged,” the women give their workplace a dream makeover, taking control of the company that had always kept them down.
With music and lyrics by Dolly Parton, the book written by Patricia Resnick prior to the movie coming out in the 1980s.
Director Emily Hores of Wellsburg is enthusiastic about bringing Parton’s musical to the playhouse stage.
“We are looking forward to bringing this positive message of women lifting each other up and finding their voice to the Ohio Valley,” Hores stated.
“Like the characters in the show, we are hoping we inspire others to feel confident enough to stand up for themselves and each other when life gets difficult,” Hores added.
The “9 to 5” cast includes: Maura Danielle Reiff-Parissi of Wintersville, Violet Newstead; Emily Stuck of Wellsburg, Doralee Rhodes; Bethany Fernbaugh of Weirton, Judy Bernley; Ralph Parissi of Wintersville, Franklin Hart; Heather Deerfield of Weirton, Roz Keith; Jay Keener-Welsch of Wellsburg, Joe; and Cathy Brooks of Wheeling, Missy Hart and Kathy.
