WELLSBURG — Brooke Hills Playhouse has announced it will hold its fourth show of the season, “The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe,” Aug. 1-3 and Aug. 8-10.

This particular play has been dramatized by Joseph Robinette from the story written by C. S. Lewis.

A traditional children’s show, children of all ages will appear on stage, as well as a few adults, officials stated.

Those in the cast will recreate the magic and mystery of Aslan, the great lion who struggles with the White Witch. Attendees will witness the adventures of four children who wander from an old wardrobe into the exciting, never-to-be-forgotten land of Narnia.

The action features chases, duels and escapes as the witch is determined to keep Narnia in her possession and to end the reign of Aslan.

This is a story about love, faith, courage and giving. It displays the triumph of good over evil and is a true celebration of life, according to officials.

Director Chelsey Barnhart of Wellsburg related on how important this production is.

“My mother, Julie Barnhart, directed the children’s show at the playhouse for 20 years,” Chelsey commented. “She passed away last December. One of the reasons I am directing this show is that I remember my mom talking about doing it again. I want to honor her always. My only hope is that I can produce a show comparable to her efforts. But that has been extremely difficult without her guidance and support. Luckily, I have a cast, some of whom acted under my mom, who are energetic and up to the task.”

Cast members will include Jake Keener-Welsch from Wellsburg, playing Aslan; Alexandra Elise from Follansbee, portraying the White Witch; Kami Martin from Woodsfield, Lucy; Jarek DeVault from Weirton, Edmund; Adina Williams from Burgettstown, Susan; and Sophia Morris from Follansbee, Peter.

Other cast members portraying Aslan’s followers and members of the Witch’s Army, will include: Sophia Peralta of Wellsburg, Layla Kelly of Wellsburg, Harper Morris of Follansbee, Margo Richardson of Follansbee, Desmond Kelly of Wellsburg, Gwendolyn Havelka of Wellsburg and Matthew Sapp of Weirton.

Season sponors of Brooke Hills Playhouse include Municipal Mutual Insurance Co. and Chambers and James Funeral Homes.

Diana Mendel is the show’s sponsor.
