School to hold rummage sale

WEIRTON — St. Joseph the Worker School, located across from Madonna High School in Weirton, will hold its annual rummage and garage sale from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. today and Friday, and from 8 a.m. to noon on Saturday in the school’s gymnasium.

Gently-used merchandise will be for sale, including housewares, collectibles, crystal and glassware, dishes, furniture, vintage items, toys and sporting goods.

Officials stated the prices will be reasonably set and there will be something available for people of all ages.

Park to hold story hour

WELLSBURG — A special story time event will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at the Brooke Hills Park shelter, located across from the swimming pool.

The event will be free to attend.

Children who register for the activity will be admitted to the pool following the story time.

Each child will be permitted up to two adults to enter the pool, free of charge.

A free lunch will be served and a craft will be available for participating children.

Family Community Day set for Saturday

STEUBENVILLE — In honor of the African-American Heritage Festival, the fifth-annual Family Reunion Community Fun Day will return to the area Saturday.

The event will take place from noon to 9 p.m. at the North End ball field, located on North Seventh Street in Steubenville.

Among the activities to be offered will be basketball games, food trucks, vendors, a children’s water party, music provided by disc jockey A-Love, children’s games, a bounce house and face painting.

UMWA to meet

HOPEDALE — The United Mine Workers of America Local No. 1304 will hold its regular meeting at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Hopedale American Legion, located at 48225 Rabbit Road in Hopedale.

Breakfast will be served at 9:30 a.m.

Library offering Geri-Fit

WELLSBURG — The Brooke County Public Library will offer a 45-minute, evidence-based, strength-training exercise class entitled Geri-Fit, for older adults.

Most of the bodybuilding exercises will be performed while seated in a chair with a set of light dumbbell weights.

As participants become stronger, they can advance to using heavier dumbbells to challenge themselves more, officials noted.

Enrollment in open to men and women of all ages and all fitness levels. Participants can work at their own pace.

The Geri-Fit Lifestyle Change Program helps increase muscular strength, improve balance and coordination, boost motor skills and reaction time, enhance flexibility and gait, lessen arthritic conditions and manage chronic diseases.

Video fitness classes are held from 10 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. Mondays and Wednesdays at the Follansbee Library, located at 844 Main St. in Follansbee; and from 8:30 a.m. to 9:15 a.m. Tuesdays and Fridays at the Brooke County Public Library, located at 945 Main St. in Wellsburg.

Those attending will need to bring a set of two- or three-pound dumbbells, a stretch band and drinking water.

The class size is limited, officials stated, so advanced registration is required.
