Benefit car show set for Sunday

STEUBENVILLE — The Steubenville- and St. Clairsville-based Healthmarkets Insurance will sponsor a benefit Car, Truck, Bike and Power Wheels Show from 11 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Sunday in the Fort Steuben Mall parking lot.

The event will be held as a fundraiser to assist the medical needs of 3-year-old Neiko Boni, son of area residents Keasha Barz and Jake Boni.

According to Healthmarkets officials, Neiko is battling cancer. All of the proceeds raised from this event will be given to the family to assist them in his care.

The car show will begin at 1 p.m.

The first 50 vehicles to enter will receive a dash plaque. Judging will be announced at 3:30 p.m.

A first-, second- and third-place trophy will go to the top winners in each of the three categories — car, truck and bike.

Healthmarkets representative Mari-Louise Pyle stated a Best in Show trophy will be given to the entrant who is the fan favorite. The favorite could be in any of the categories at the show.

Pyle explained that judging will be done by the fans who are in attendance. Each attendee will be given a ballot on which to cast their vote for their favorites.

The entry fee will be $10 per vehicle.

A special Power Wheels contest will be held for children, with judging to be based on which entrant has the most unique Power Wheels vehicle at the show.

Pyle stated those entering the contest should be creative and decorate their Power Wheels with anything they believe will make their bike unique and stand out, such as lights, flags and stickers. The options are endless, she noted. The Power Wheels contest winners will be recognized at 3 p.m.

The show will feature various food trucks, local vendors, a 50/50 drawing, silent Chinese auction, dunk tank and face painting for children.

A fire truck and police car will be on site for children to explore and have their pictures taken with, officials stated.

Pyle noted all of the money raised will go to the family, with participating vendors agreeing to donate a percentage of their sales from the event toward helping Boni.

A co-worker of Pyle’s, Elizabeth Ryan, said she heard about Boni from Wintersville Mayor Mike Petrella. Pyle noted how Ryan has experienced a similar situation and wanted to do something to help the family. So she approached those at Healthmarkets Insurance and asked to do the event.

The issue is “very near and dear to her heart,” Pyle said of Ryan.

“Hopefully, we can make this a big event,” Pyle concluded. “People have really been rooting for us and helping us to get the word out.”

Anyone who would like to contribute toward Boni’s treatment and care, but who will not be at Sunday’s event, can drop off a donation at Healthmarkets Insurance during business hours, which range from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Visit the Steubenville location at 4169 Sunset. Blvd., or the St. Clairsville office at 50966 National Road.
