Senior center dance today

WEIRTON — The Greater Weirton Senior Center, located at 3425 Main St. in Weirton, will hold its next dance between 6 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. today.

The public is invited to attend the event.

Dinner will be served at 7 p.m. Guests are asked to bring a side dish to share with those in attendance. The center will provide the main dish. A 50/50 drawing will take place during the evening.

The cost will be $10 for singles or $15 for couples.

Retirees to meet

STEUBENVILLE — Members of the Steubenville City School Retirees met for their monthly lunch get-together July 10 at Tuckers Tavern in Toronto. According to organizers, there was “a very nice crowd of retirees who showed up.”

“Good food and stories were shared,” officials commented.

During the event, those in attendance signed get-well and sympathy cards for members of the group. The next luncheon has been scheduled for noon on Aug. 14 at Bistro 303 Prime Couisine, located at 303 Three Springs Drive in Weirton.

Anyone who is interested in joining the luncheon is asked to attend. No reservation is required.

Museum open houses continue

RICHMOND — The Crew House Museum, located at 34 W. Main St. in Richmond, will hold its next- to-last open house for the summer on Sunday.

Hosted by the Richmond Community Historical Society, the open house will be held from noon to 4 p.m. Admission is free, but donations are appreciated.

Visitors can browse at their leisure and direct any questions to historical society members on hand.

The final open house of the season is scheduled from noon to 4 p.m. Aug. 24.

Officials stated the museum was once home to the Crew family, who possessed the building for 146 years. Next year will mark its 200th anniversary.

The museum features a variety of town memorabilia and boasts a second floor dedicated to Jefferson Union High School items, which is of special interest to classes having attended JUHS that has access to the floor as part of its reunion plans.

The historical society is marking its 50th anniversary this year, having been chartered Jan. 20, 1975. Its theme is “50 Years of History in our Community.”

The historical society will host its annual Quaker Day fundraiser from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sept. 27 in the area of the Crew House Museum. The event will feature food, live entertainment and vendors.

Historical society officers include John Jones, president; Marge Andres, vice president; Sandy Judy, secretary; and Wendy Byers, treasurer.

The historical society’s next meeting will be held at 7 p.m Aug. 19 at the Crew House Museum.

Anyone is welcome to attend or become a member. Annual dues are $5. A lifetime membership is $50. Richmond pottery is available for purchase and includes crocks for $25 and mugs for $12.

The historical society will have a booth available for selling items at the first Richmond Community Yard Sale and Craft Show event, set to take place from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Aug. 16.

The show will be hosted by the Lighthouse Evangelical Church, located at 336 W. Main St. in Richmond.

Peach Dinner Festival set

IRONDALE — Irondale Christ Community Church will hold its annual Peach Dinner Festival from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at the church, located on Grant Street in Irontdale.

The menu will consist of an Italian or hot sausage sandwich, baked potato, corn on the cob, a drink and dessert. The cost of the dinner is through donation only.

The church offers dine-in or carry-out service.

All of the proceeds raised will be used to assist the church.

JSWCD to hold photography contest

STEUBENVILLE — The Jefferson Soil and Water Conservation District is inviting amateur photographers to submit their photos for its annual photo contest.

Photo submissions will be accepted through Oct. 10. Photographers can submit up to four photos in the categories of Power of Water, One of These Things is Not Like the Others, Walk in the Woods or Photographer’s Choice.

Submissions must be natural resources related to and taken within Jefferson County.

Officials announced photos will be displayed at the conservation district’s annual meeting and banquet, set to be held Oct. 27. Those in attendance will vote for the first-place winner in each category through secret ballot.

The first-place winner in each category will receive a cash award, along with an opportunity to have their photo shown on district education or promotion items.

Military photos showing at fair

SMITHFIELD — The military posters that were created as a special Memorial Day project to honor service members who once attended Wayne High School in Bloomingdale will be available for viewing during the Jefferson County Fair in Smithfield.

The military posters will be shown in building 7-8 beginning Monday and running through Aug. 17.

The posters contain the names of each man and woman who served in the military, along with their dates of service and additional information.
