Class of '67 to meet
WEIRTON -- The Weir High School Class of 1967 will meet at 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday at Mario's Restaurant, located at 3810 Main St. in Weirton.

Book versus movie at library
WELLSBURG -- The Brooke County Library will show the rated PG-13 movie "News of the World," at 2:30 p.m. Aug. 28.
Veteran Cpt. Jefferson Kyle Kidd embarks on a new mission five years after the conclusion of the Civil War. He goes from town to town to share news about presidents, queens, catastrophes, feuds and other interesting affairs from all around the world.

Recipe Club to meet
WELLSBURG -- Do you love browsing through cookbooks and trying new recipes? Do you enjoy sampling and sharing new dishes with good company? Those who answered yes are asked to join the Recipe Club at the Brooke County Public Library.
Every month will offer a different theme. You choose a recipe, make it and bring it to the library with a copy of the recipe. Then, join fellow participants to share the finished product, swap recipes and engage in fellowship.
The club will meet at noon on Aug. 29 in the River Room. The theme will be Recipes Using Jell-O or Pudding. Bring your favorite recipe to share. Registration is not required. For information, call (304) 737-1551.
Author book talk at library
WELLSBURG -- Join the Brooke County Public Library as it holds an in-person book talk with West Virginia author C.L. Johnson at 6 p.m. Aug. 28 in the Vincent Room.
Johnson will discuss the book series "Hiding, Hunting, Healing." Listen to excerpts from the new book "Healing," while participants discuss their writing journey and provide details that may not be known. A question-and-answer period, along with the chance to buy the book and have it signed, will follow the talk.

Chamber to hold career fair
WINTERSVILLE -- The Jefferson County Chamber of Commerce will hold a county-wide career and education fair for high school students in Jefferson, Harrison and Columbiana counties from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sept. 18 at St. Florian Hall, located on Luray Drive in Wintersville.
The event will offer more than 800 students the opportunity to meet with employers, colleges, universities, technical schools, labor unions and military branches, which are invited to attend as a vendor.

Smithfield Historical Society meets
SMITHFIELD -- Rena Goss, author of "Murder on Perrin Run," was the speaker during the Smithfield Historical Society's August meeting held at the historical society building on Main Street.
Goss's book tells a true crime story set in 1899 Jefferson County. The author spoke on the detailed research she has done to prepare for the book and explained to those in attendance how the story related to her ancestors, as well as to some of the residents of Smithfield.
Following Goss's presentation, a brief business meeting was conducted by President Linda Kovach. A report was given by Secretary Jodee Verhovec.
The group made the decision to hold an open house from 10 a.m. to noon on Sept. 17. The museum will be open for browsing and a collection of scrap books from the Apple Festival will be on display. Coffee and doughnuts will be served.
The society agreed to hold a monthly open house throughout the remainder of the year, to take place on the third Wednesday of the month. The group's next regular meeting will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Sept. 8 at the Smithfield Historical Society building.
Mah Jongg offered at library
WELLSBURG -- The Brooke County Public Library offers Mah Jongg every Friday from 1 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.
Participants who have their own set of tiles are welcome to bring them. Anyone who would like to learn how to play can contact the library and someone will assist you, officials stated. No registration is required. For information, call (304) 737-1551.
Seniors planning train trip
TORONTO -- The Toronto Senior Citizens group is planning a three-day, two-night Riding the Rails trip in West Virginia Sept. 30 through Oct. 2. The activity is open to the public.
The cost will be $489 per person, with double occupancy for members. The cost is $519 for non-members. Single occupancy will be $688 for members and $718 for non-members.
The package includes two nights lodging, two breakfasts, one lunch, two dinners including an evening of entertainment, Cass Scenic Railroad, Smoke Hole Caverns, Blackwater Falls State Park, souvenir gift, luggage handling, taxes and meal gratuities and motorcoach transportation.
