Brooke County talks library cards
WELLSBURG — Officials with the Brooke County Library and Follansbee Library branch announced that studies show children who are read to and who utilize the library, perform better in school.
September is Library Card Sign-up Month, a time when the Brooke County Library and Follansbee Branch join with the American Library Association and public libraries nationwide, ensuring every student has the most important school supply of all — a free library card. This year’s theme is One Card, Endless Possibilities. The reminder says how libraries are for everyone — no matter their age, background or goals. Whether you’re diving into a new hobby, searching for your next great read, brushing up on tech skills or helping your child succeed in school, it all begins with a library card,” officials commented.
Resources at the Brooke County Library and Follansbee Branch are available to anyone who has a library card. A library card unlocks a world of adventure, giving everyone access to books, e-books and other digital content, computers, music, movies and more.
“Our library provides access and programs for students of all ages,” officials added. “There’s really something for everyone and it’s all free with a library card.” For information on how to sign up for a library card, visit either library in-person or go online to brookecountylibs.org.
Play at the library
WELLSBURG — The Brooke County Public Library offers a chance for children to enjoy using the Childrens’ Room to play, build, socialize and learn together anytime between 10:30 a.m. and noon every Saturday morning.
A variety of exciting toys and games are available to help develop hand-eye coordination and STEM concepts. Parents and guardians must provide direct supervision. The play time is recommended for those between the ages of birth and 6, although all ages are welcome. Volunteers will take down and put away the toys. No registration is required. Children will have fun, make friends and grow in their social skills, while parents who feel stuck at home can be part of a community activity and be among peers.
