Fidelis Gamma Chapter meets
WEIRTON — The Fidelis Gamma Chapter of Alpha Delta Kappa International Honorary Organization for Women Educators met at Eat ‘n Park in Weirton Aug. 7. The Chapter had 14 members present.
President-elect Donna Durkin welcomed guests in attendance. Chaplain Elaine McClung led in the reciting of the pledge, led a prayer for members and provided the meal’s blessing.
McClung read an inspirational message entitled, “Mowing the Lawn,” in order to lift spirits.
The June minutes were read by Ruth Fuller in the absence of Secretary Margo Polk.
The financial report was read by Treasurer Carolyn Allison, who provided the ending and savings balances. Corresponding Secretary Eileen Snyder reported several get-well cards were sent to members during June and July.
Durkin reviewed the by-laws for the yearly scholarship, followed by Membership Chairman Fuller encouraging members to submit names for membership.
Standing in for Altruistic Chairman Polk, Allison reported volunteer hours and monetary and non-monetary donations. Sheets were circulated to record the month’s report.
Durkin thanked Allison and Fuller for their roles as co-courtesy chairmen, for welcoming members.
Durkin led a discussion on the upcoming Tri-Chapter Christmas Party slated for Dec. 6. She collected gift cards to be placed on wreaths for a drawing and spoke about the menu and favors.
Motions pertaining to the Christmas party were made and passed. Durkin referred to the by-laws regarding the proceeds from the drawing.
The president-elect reminded members the Ohio Valley District meeting will be held in October. Twinkle Smith was thanked for helping host the meeting.
Allison and Fuller presented an activity.
Members having August birthdays were announced: Nancy Deters, Durkin, McClung and Nancy Holdsworth. The next meeting will be held Sept. 4. Hostesses will be Sandra Anderson, Janet Benzo and Nancy Deters.
