Brooke library giving back
The Brooke County Public Libraries will celebrate National Library Card Sign-Up Month in September, giving back to patrons in numerous ways. The libraries announced they want the public to have equal access to information.
“We know the patrons of our community use the library for a multitude of uses, ranging from career/job based, educational and entertainment needs,” officials stated. “We recognize that due to high fines and items that have not been returned, this prohibits the use of some, if not all, of the library services.”
Currently, the library does not charge overdue fines for books, audiobooks and CDs; however; charges apply for DVDs.
During September, overdue fines will be forgiven, as long as the materials have been returned or will be returned the day of your visit, officials said.

Yost seeking teens for board
COLUMBUS — Ohio Attorney Gen. Dave Yost’s office is accepting applications for Yost’s Teen Ambassador Board.
The board is designed for high school juniors and seniors attending public, private, charter and online schools, and home-schooled students. Young people will have an opportunity to engage with state government officials and discuss issues affecting their lives, officials noted.
“Many of these young men and women are already established leaders in their schools and communities,” Yost said. “The Teen Ambassador Board can help them hone their leadership talents as they prepare for possible careers in public service.”
Board members serve a one-year term, during which they convene twice in Columbus, collaborating and advising the attorney general’s office on matters relevant to teens. Ideal applicants are motivated, enthusiastic self-starters who have an interest in law and government, are seeking to develop leadership skills and who want to make a difference.
Board members participate in small group projects, attend presentations, meet with Yost and interact with assistant attorney generals and elected officials.
The submission deadline for applicants is Sept. 12. Each application must include a recommendation from a teacher, coach or community member.

Shred and E-cycle event set
WHEELING — The Better Business Bureau will host its 12th-annual Shred and E-cycle event from 9 a.m. to noon Sept. 27 at the St. Michael Angelus Center, located at 1225 National Road in Wheeling.
The free event helps protect against identity theft, while promoting safe recycling.
Residents can bring sensitive documents to shred, along with old electronics to e-cycle. A small fee will be charged for televisions and computer monitors, officials noted.
In addition to offering fraud prevention, participants will be giving back, as all proceeds will benefit the BBB Charitable and Educational Fund, which provides scholarships to local high school students.
