Thursday Music Club to feature singer, Torres

Torres

WHEELING — The Thursday Music Club will hold its next meeting at 11 a.m. Oct. 2 at the Char House on the Boulevard in Bethlehem.

Entertainment for the meeting will be provided by Naomi Torres, winner of the Gretchen McKee Scholarship at West Liberty University. Torres, a sophomore music technology major, has been passionate about singing since childhood.

Born in Buffalo, N.Y., and raised in Richmond, Va., she has sung in church with her family and participated in numerous educational music opportunities. She conducted choirs and operated live sound systems — experiences she says helped to shape her career path.

Torres said she is looking forward to performing for club members and guests.

Reservations for the luncheon should be made by Sunday. Call Sandy Smith at (304) 242-1628.

The cost is $20 for the luncheon.

The Thursday Music Club is open to anyone interested, with annual membership dues being $20. October greeters will be Alice Runkle and Betty Lane.

The club’s chorus, led under the direction of Anita Chops, along with Debbie Breiding as accompanist, rehearses at 10 a.m. every Wednesday at Elm Grove United Methodist Church.

Those interested in joining the club or chorus can contact Chops at (304) 551-1414.
