Women’s retreat

Five members of the Disciples Women group at the First Christian Church in Weirton, joined more than 70 ladies from Disciples of Christ churches throughout the state during this year’s Women’s Retreat at North Bend State Park in Cairo, W.Va. Held Sept. 5-7, the retreat was entitled “Experiencing God,” featuring guest speaker the Rev. Nadine Burton. Those taking part from the First Christian Church included, from left, Beth Younciak, outreach chairman; Janet Rymer, president; Karen Blanc, secretary; Susan Brown, vice president; and Connie Norwood, treasurer. The experience included a time of music, prayer, scripture and learning, with attendees enjoying foods and fellowship in a forest setting. The Disciples Women collected $1,000 for Facing Hunger, reporting that approximately $5,111 was donated to local food banks during the past year. Blessing Box donations totaled $1,353 and a basket auction brought in $597. The women focused on the Bible scripture from Micah 6:8, saying: “What does the Lord require of you but to do justly, to love mercy and to walk humbly with thy God?”
