WELLSBURG — The Brooke County Historical Museum and Culture Center will be open from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Friday through Sunday, in conjunction with the Wellsburg Applefest, and will include a number of new acquisitions.
The museum, located at 704 Charles St., is where visitors will find many vendors during the annual festival throughout each of the three days.
Volunteers announced they have acquired a driving simulator and an answer board once used by students in Brooke High School’s driver education course — installed when the school opened in 1969.
The museum received composite photos of Bethany High School graduates of 1934, 1948 and 1950-69. The large, framed photos will join photos of graduating classes of the former Wellsburg High School and yearbooks and other memorabilia from Bethany, Wellsburg, Follansbee and Brooke high schools in the museum’s education department. Some photos from Follansbee High School’s graduating classes can be found at the Follansbee Library. The museum received a donation of books and memorabilia from World War II and the Vietnam War. The items have been added to one of its two military rooms, which contain artifacts ranging from letters belonging to Oliver Brown, an officer in the American Revolution; to a field telephone used by soldiers during World War II.
Normally open from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday, Friday and Sunday during the warmer months, the museum will close for the season Oct. 31. Tours can be arranged during the winter by calling (304) 737-4060.
