WEIRTON — Weirton’s Community Bread Basket received a $100,000 gift from philanthropists Bill and Nena Beynon — West Virginia residents who’ve resided in Southwest Florida for 30 years.

The Beynons believe in giving back to the communities that molded them, which was the inspiration for their donation.

Bill Beynon, a Weirton native, and his wife, Nena, of Grafton, W.Va., credits their upbringing in the Mountain State for instilling in them the values of hard work, generosity and community service.

Half of the money will be used to provide holiday food baskets for Weirton families in need, ensuring hundreds of households can share in the warmth and comfort of a holiday meal. The remaining $50,000 will support the nonprofit’s broader mission of addressing food insecurity throughout the Northern Panhandle.

“Although we have lived in Southwest Florida for nearly 30 years, West Virginia will always be home,” Bill Beynon said. “The communities of Weirton and Grafton shaped who we are today. This gift is simply our way of giving thanks and paying it forward.”

The Beynons hope their donation will inspire others to act.

“We encourage everyone who can to lend a hand,” Nena Beynon added. “Even the smallest gesture can make a big difference. Together, we can ensure no family in the area goes without this holiday season.”

The Community Bread Basket has served the needs of residents in the region for decades. It expressed its “deep appreciation for the donation and the powerful message it sends.”

“Bill and Nena’s generosity is a testament to the enduring spirit of West Virginia,” a spokesperson stated. “They remind us all that no matter where life takes you, giving back to your roots is one of the most meaningful things you can do.”

The agency depends on community support to carry out its mission. Others are encouraged to join in supporting its holiday programs and year-round services.
