Legion holding Fish Frys
BRILLIANT — The Brilliant American Legion, located at 210 Market St. in Brilliant, has resumed its weekly Fish Frys, which are held every Friday through Nov. 21.
The legion will break for the holidays and then resume its Fish Frys Feb. 6 through April 24.
The menu includes a choice of Coleman’s fish, chicken planks, shrimp, wing dings or fish nuggets.
All of these items can be purchased as dinners or as smaller portion baskets.
Dinners come with french fries, coleslaw and bread. Onion rings can be substituted for an additional $1.
Additional menu items will consist of french fries, onion rings, hush puppies, mozzarella sticks and hot or mild cheeseballs.
The legion will be selling the menu items between the hours of 11 a.m. and 6 p.m. every Friday.

Fundraiser set at fire department
NEW MANCHESTER — Miriam’s Amish Style Dinners will be preparing the dinners for the upcoming fundraiser that will be held at the New Manchester Volunteer Fire Department, Station 5.
According to officials, the dinners will be sold beginning at 3 p.m. on Wednesday and continue until all of the food has been sold.
Each dinner will cost $15 and includes pork chops with gravy, homefries, broccoli, a dinner roll, caramel apple crisp and a drink.
Assorted homemade desserts will be available until sold out.
Call-in orders must be picked up by 6:15 p.m.

Ribbon walk scheduled
STEUBENVILLE — The Jefferson County Phoenix Program will hold its sixth-annual Red Ribbon Community Walk in honor of Red Ribbon Week, beginning at 11 a.m. Oct. 25 at Jim Woods Park in Steubenville.
Red Ribbon Week, scheduled to be held Oct.23-31, is a national drug prevention awareness campaign held every October across the United States.
The event will feature guest speakers, information booths, giveaways, drawings, music, inflatables, children’s activities and more, according to organizers.

Rosary rally planned
FOLLANSBEE — The Follansbee St. Anthony Altar and Rosary Society will hold a public rosary rally at 2 p.m. Oct. 19 in Hood’s Pharmacy parking lot on Main Street.
During this year’s rally, attendees will honor the mother of God and pray for the community and world peace.
In the event of rain, the rally will move to the church.
All are welcome to attend.
Light refreshments will be served in the church hall following the rally.
Library to show film
WELLSBURG — The Follansbee Library will show the rated PG-13 movie “Trap,” at noon on Friday.
The film is about a father and teen daughter who attend a pop concert where they realize they are at the center of a dark and sinister event.
Attendees can bring a lunch. Popcorn and water will be provided.

Book club to meet
WELLSBURG — A group of friends, a good book and free-flowing discussion. These are the ingredients for a wonderful experience at the Brooke County Public Library.
Book Club will meet at 5 p.m. Oct. 30 in person and virtually to discuss the book “When the English Fall,” by David Williams. Participants will receive the November book at the meeting. The club is free and open to the public.

Crochet Club to meet
WELLSBURG — The Brooke County Public Library’s Crocheting Club will meet in the River Room at noon on Wednesday.
The group is for adult beginners through experts. Bring your own supplies and projects.

Pumpkin contest to be held at library
WELLSBURG — The Brooke County Public Library will hold a pumpkin decorating contest from 10:30 a.m. to noon on Oct. 18 in the library’s River Room.
Judging will take place at noon by members of the Friends of the Library. Winners will be announced at 12:30 p.m.
The contest is open to children in preschool through eighth grade.
The pumpkins were donated by Fonce’s Produce, with supplies and trophies supplied by the Friends of the Library, the Wellsburg Moose Lodge and the Brooke County Library.
Registration is required.
Spaces and pumpkins are limited.
