Trunk-or-treat event set for today
STEUBENVILLE — Trinity Health System will hold a trunk-or-treat event from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. today in the parking lot of the YMCA, located at 3151 Johnson Road in Steubenville.
This Halloween event is being hosted by the Employee Life Team, in partnership with the YMCA.
JCRTA to meet
WINTERSVILLE — The Jefferson County Retired Teachers Assocaition will meet Nov. 18 at the Wintersville Methodist Church, located at the corner of Main Street and Fernwood Road.
The business meeting will begin at 10:30 a.m. Luncheon reservations are due to Gina Judy by Nov. 4. The cost is $15. June Logan from ORTA will update members and install JCRTA officers for the 2026-27 term.
The Indian Creek choir will perform for membership in attendance. Those attending are asked to wear their school colors from the school at which they taught.
The community service project for November will be helping the Urban Mission Ministries fill stockings with personal hygiene items for teenagers. All current teachers and retirees are encouraged to attend.
Evening Storytime set
WELLSBURG — The Brooke County Public Library will hold two Storytime events for children.
An Evening Storytime with Miss Kim is set for 5 p.m. Nov. 5. The library will celebrate Children’s Book Week with Dog Man and friends with the theme, “Power Up With Reading!”
Children will listen to the story “Dogzilla,” written by Dav Pilkey, and enjoy pictures, games, snacks and more. The program is provided in partnership with Scholastic.
An Evening Explore and Learn Storytime with Miss Kim will take place at 5 p.m. on Nov. 6. Children will enjoy a story and hands-on activities, featuring special guest reader Taylor Daugherty from Etna. Limited seats are available for both events.

Library to show film
WELLSBURG — The Brooke County Library will show the rated PG-13 movie “Mission Impossible — The Final Reckoning,” at noon on Nov. 7. The film stars Ethan Hunt, as he and his IMF team race against time to find the entity — a rogue artificial intelligence that can destroy mankind. Attendees are welcome to bring a lunch. Popcorn and water will be provided.

Soup, sandwich fundraiser planned
SMITHFIELD — The Smithfield Historical Society will hold a soup, sandwich and dessert sale from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Nov. 8 at its building, located on Main Street in Smithfield. Patrons are invited to dine in or carry out their purchases.
Several types of homemade soups will be available, as well as hot chicken sandwiches, hot dogs or coney dogs. A variety of desserts will be on sale as well.
Proceeds from the annual event will be used toward the upkeep of the building and community projects. The historical museum is open for viewing during the time of the funraiser or through visits arranged by contacting President Linda Kovach at (740) 733-8381.
Donations of town memorabelia are welcome.
Rosemont Chapel to hold holiday sale
STEUBENVILLE — Rosemont Chapel, located at the corner of Williams Boulevard and Goulds Road, will hold its annual Christmas and Holiday Sale from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Nov. 8 at the chapel.
The sale will feature a variety of miscellaneous household items and several holiday lights and decorations, according to organizers.
Hot sandwiches and homemade baked goods will be available for purchase as well.
Library offering Tai Chi
WELLSBURG — The Brooke County Public Library will offer a weekly Tai Chi class instructed by Mike Turrentine at 11 a.m. every Monday inside the River Room.
The moving meditation is in the form of a series of gentle exercises, creating harmony between the mind and body, according to officials. This is a free, hour-long class. Participants are asked to wear comfortable clothing.

Franciscan to hold ‘Barber of Seville’
STEUBENVILLE — Franciscan University of Steubenville’s Anathan Theater will perform Beaumarchais’ “The Barber of Seville,” as its mainstage student production Nov. 7-16. The original comedy behind Rossini’s famous opera tells the tale of Count Almaviva’s efforts to woo Rosine and to liberate her from her guardian, Dr. Bartholo. Employing his wit and access to the doctor’s house, the barber Figaro leads the charge against Bartholo.
Directed by Monica Anderson, Franciscan University professor and chair of the fine arts department, the family-friendly play will be performed on the ground floor of Egan Hall’s Anathan Theater for two consecutive weekends.
The 90-minute performance will take place at 7 p.m. on Nov. 7-8 and Nov. 14-15; and at 2 p.m. on Nov. 9. and Nov. 16. There will be no intermission. The public is welcome to attend.
Tickets are $8 for adults, $5 for students and seniors and free for clergy, religious and children 12 and under.
