Fidelis Gamma discusses three wreaths

WEIRTON — The Fidelis Gamma Chapter of Alpha Delta Kappa International Honorary Organization for Women Educators met Oct. 2 at Eat ‘n Park in Weirton. Fourteen members and one guest were present. Ruth Fuller introduced her cousin, Nancy Zachewitz, as her guest.

President Susan Cullinan welcomed those in attendance and opened the meeting with the reciting of the Pledge of Allegiance.

Chaplain Elaine McClung read an inspirational reading entitled, “Gifts.” She led the group in prayer and said a blessing prior to the meal.

The September minutes were read by Fuller, who stood in for Secretary Margo Polk. In the absence of Treasurer Carolyn Allison, Cullinan read the financial report.

Alpha Delta Kappa Month Chairman Shirley Washam shared the club’s plans for the monthly celebration. Liz Pugh read the Altruistic Report in the absence of Polk.

Under courtesy, Fuller welcomed members as they entered the meeting. Cullinan took part in a Zoom meeting with State President Carol Bauer, State Historian Marianne Annie and State Membership Chairman Diane Stillwel. That meeting focused on membership within the state. Suggestions were made to involve members in various ways, with a newsletter to be sent out to membership as a followup.

Cullinan reminded members of the Ohio Valley District fall luncheon, scheduled to take place Oct. 25 at Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church, located on Ridgecrest Road in Wheeling. Registration is from 11 a.m. to noon, with the luncheon beginning at noon.

Cullinan led a discussion on Three Wreaths, which includes one wreath being prepared to present at the Ohio Valley District luncheon. Fidelis will host the Tri-Chapter Christmas party Dec. 6, with the other two wreaths to be presented during the meeting. Nancy Conley, chairman of the Tri-Chapter Christmas party, assigned committees for the event.

Cullinan held a workshop on making a Christmas ornament. Hostesses were Pugh and McClung.

The next meeting will be held Nov. 6. Hostesses will be Cullinan, Wendy Speer and Crystal Baranowski.
