STEUBENVILLE — The Steubenville Art Association has announced its featured artists for the month of October at the Historic Fort Steuben Visitor Center.
Judy Schmidt, president of the SAA, exclaimed this month’s artists are sisters Nancy Wright and Joyce Beatty.
Wright is a resident of Chester who is an impressionist painter. In 2008, she became one of the founders of the Top of West Virginia Arts Council.
She helped with the groundwork for the opening of the Summit Art Gallery in Weirton.
The West Liberty University graduate retired after 33 years as an art teacher.

Wright has experimented with several different mediums, although her preference is working with acrylics.
She explained she loves the challenge of using palette knives with ceramic mediums to create some of her works.
Wright has had her works displayed at the Lincoln Park Creative Arts Center, where she won Merit awards, as well as a recent Best of Show award.
She will be the Midland Art Show’s featured artist in July.
Her artwork has been shown in Columbiana; Morganton, N.C.; the Duncan and Miller Glass Museum in Washington, Pa., the Historic Fort Steuben, the Steubenville Art Association’s Spring Exhibit and several other locations.

Wright volunteers her time with organizations to assist with fundraising events.
She presents art classes in at the West Virginia Convention and Visitors Bureau in Weirton.
Beatty took an interest in painting many years ago, experimenting with oils and acrylics.
She eventually developed a style somewhere between realism and impressionism. Some of the subjects she enjoys painting are old, weathered structures.
Beatty is a member of the Steubenville Art Association and a founding member of the Top of West Virginia Arts Council.
She is a hanging artist at the Summit Art Gallery in Weirton, a venue whose formation she has participated.
Her art has been featured at the New Cumberland Riverfest, the Hancock-Brooke Art Hop, Martha’s Gallery and at the Sarah Miller House in Wellsburg.
Beatty has received several honorable mention awards, along with a Best of Show award at the Midland Art Council’s Summer Arts Festival. She was the featured artist at the festival in 2025.
A few years ago, in addition to painting, Beatty began sculpting with air-dry and oil-base clays. She says she loves the challenge of sculpting unique Santa faces and seeing her “Santa’s from a Christmas Past” come to life.
She believes, as other artists do, that creating feeds the soul.
