The Public Library of Steubenville and Jefferson County announced the Local History and Genealogy Department at the Schiappa Library has received a donation of 53 books from Ohio’s Society of Mayflower Descendants. The donation includes 38 books in publication from the Silver Books series “Mayflower Families through Five Generations,” with a three-volume index. The project began in 1959 to trace the first five generations of descendants from each Mayflower passenger who left behind descendants. According to library officials, it is a valuable addition to the local history department, as it allows researchers to locate possible ancestral links to the Mayflower pilgrims. On hand for the book presentation were Erika Grubbs, Local History and Genealogy Department, left, and Terri Brown, deputy historian of Ohio’s Society of Mayflower Descendants.
