Legion to offer free Thanksgiving
WEIRTON — The American Legion Post 10 in Weirton will offer a free Thanksgiving dinner for area veterans and their spouses.
The event will take place at 5 p.m. on Nov. 20 at the post, located at 3140 Pennsylvania Ave. in Weirton.
Turkey and all of the trimmings will be served.
Those who are planning to attend must call or text any of the following numbers by today to reserve a seat. Organizers announced an approximate head count is needed to know how many people will be attending and how much food should be purchased and prepared.

Follansbee Library to show film
WELLSBURG — The Follansbee Library will show the movie “Amber Alert,” rated PG-13, at noon on Friday.
The film follows a ride share that turns into a high-stakes game of cat and mouse as it follows a car fitting the description of an AMBER ALERT.
Attendees are permitted to bring a lunch. Popcorn and water will be provided.

Church to celebrate anniversary
WEIRTON — The Morning Star Baptist Church of Weirton, along with its pastor, the Rev. James E. Brown, will celebrate the church’s 106th anniversary at 2:30 p.m. Sunday.
The Rev. Rudy McAllister, pastor of Mount Olive Baptist Church, in addition to the members of his congregation, will serve as the church’s guests for the afternnon’s special event.
All residents throughout the community are invited to attend.
Recipe Club to meet
WELLSBURG — Those who love browsing through cookbooks and trying new recipes, or enjoy sampling and sharing new dishes with good company are invited to join the Brooke County Public Library’s Recipe Club.
Each month, the club will have a new theme. Participants will select a recipe, make it and bring it, along with the recipe, to the library to share with others. The group will share the finished products, swap recipes and engage in fellowship.
The next club meeting will take place at noon on Nov. 21 in the River Room. The theme will be Christmas Cookies. Bring your favorite recipe to share. Registration is not required. For information, call (304) 737-1551.
Church to hold soup and sandwich sale
WEIRTON — St. Thomas Episcopal Church will hold its annual soup and sandwich sale from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Nov. 22 at the church, located on Three Springs Drive in Weirton.
Soups will be sold by the bowl and by the quart. The option to dine in or carry out foods will be available. In addition, a holiday bake sale and crafts will be sold during the fundraiser. For information, call the church at (304) 723-4120.
Adena to hold polka dance
ADENA — The Adena Heritage Days committee will host a polka dance from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Nov. 22 at the Short Creek Adena Fire Station.
The event will feature the Polkaholics, with proceeds to go toward the Adena Heritage Days celebration in August. Food and drinks will be available for purchase during the dance, including takeout orders.

Christmas events at Puskarich libraries
SCIO — The Puskarich Public Library System, which includes the Scio branch, the Puskarich Library and the Clark Memorial branch, will be offering several upcoming events and activities centered around the holiday season.
Officials announced a Christmas Extravaganza is planned for 6:30 p.m. Dec. 11 at the Scio Library. Celebrate the season with music, games and holiday cheer with disc jockey the Spikeman, who will keep the tunes rolling while guests enjoy cookies, cocoa and a night of festive fun. Compete in “Name that Song: Holiday Edition,” minute-to-win-it games, Christmas trivia and more. The event is for adults only.
The Scio branch is offering a Polar Express Night at 7 p.m. Dec. 22. Attendees can wear their pajamas, sip hot chocolate and enjoy the magic of “The Polar Express” film.

The Puskarich Library will throw a New Year’s party for children at noon on Dec. 30. An afternoon of bingo, games, dancing, snacks and a balloon drop during a countdown to 2026 has been planned. Elementary ages are welcome to attend.

Clark Memorial will hold an Ugly Sweater Trivia Night in which guests are asked to wear their ugliest holiday sweater and take part in a round of festive trivia. Snacks will be provided, along with a few surprise gifts, according to officials.

Center to apply for accreditation
NEW CUMBERLAND — The John D. Rockefeller IV Career Center will be applying for reaffirmation of its accreditation with the Commission of the Council on Occupational Education in March.
