Library announces activities

STEUBENVILLE -- The elves have arrived at the Public Library of Steubenville and Jefferson County. Visit the nearest library branch and pick up a grab-and-go bag containing the supplies needed to create a magic elf moving glove at home. Officials stated, "Everyone knows Elf on the Shelf can be touched or they will lose their magic." Kits are intended for children ages 5-12.

Other activities scheduled for the week of Dec. 7-13 include:

Adults: Read and discuss "We Wish You a Murderous Christmas," by Vicki Delany. The Mystery Book Club will meet to discuss the book at 11 a.m. Dec. 8. Call to join.

Children: Drop in for a family Story Time at 10:30 a.m. Dec. 13.

The library is exploring the North Pole at 6 p.m. Dec. 11. The interactive program is for children ages 5-11. Register to attend.

Children: Sign up for Tot Time, a program intended for parents who have children between the ages of 2 and 4. The activity will take place at 11:30 a.m. Dec. 8.

Children ages 5-10 are welcome to attend Story Time for stories and crafts at 5:30 p.m. Dec. 8. Register to attend.

Children: Decorate a giant gingerbread man at 6 p.m. Dec. 11. Registration is required.

Adults: Relax and unwind while taking part in the library's seasonal Paint 'n Sip class at 1 p.m. Dec. 13. The class is free and supplies will be provided. Call to register.

Children: Sign up for Tot Time, a program for parents and children between the ages of 2 and 4. The class will be held at 11:30 a.m. Dec. 9.

Children ages 5-10 are welcome to attend Story Time at 5:30 p.m. Dec. 9. Listen to stories and make a craft. Register to attend.

Adults: Explore billions of historical newspaper articles from 47 countries on the library's Newspaper Archive e-resource. Sign up to learn how to use this database 1 p.m. and 6 p.m. Dec. 10.

It's Crochet Night at the library at 6 p.m. Dec. 10. Bring in a project to work on in the company of others. This will not be an instructional program.

Children: Play and Learn the Alphabet will be held for parents who have children between the ages of birth and 4 years old. The activity will be held at 5 p.m. Dec. 11 and at 10 a.m. Dec. 12. Introduce children to the library at an early age and help them with early literacy skills by playing with toys that promote alphabet knowledge.
