Jewelry sale set at WMC
WEIRTON — The Weirton Medical Center Auxiliary will hold its $5 masquerade jewelry sale from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Thursday and from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Friday in the center’s atrium. Proceeds from the sale will be used toward the auxiliary’s annual gift to the hospital.
Pet photos to help homeless animals
WEIRTON — The Hancock County Humane Foundation will hold its Pet Photos with Santa event from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday at Pet Supplies Plus in Weirton. The business is located at 250 Three Springs Drive. A $15 donation provides guests with printed and digital photos. All pets and people are welcome to attend. Proceeds will benefit homeless animals.
Smithfield to hold light up event
SMITHFIELD — The Smithfield community will welcome in the holiday season with a Christmas Tree Light Up event set for 5 p.m. Saturday. The public is invited to join in the celebration by gathering at the corner of Main and Green streets in the lot located beside the Smithfield Historical Society building.
Refreshments, caroling and a special visit from Santa will take be part of the evening’s activities.
The annual tree lighting continues a longtime community tradition, according to Smithfield Church Council member Glenda Carducci. Organizing the event are the Smithfield Council of Churches, Friends of Smithfield, the Historical Society and the Smithfield Volunteer Fire Department. Church Women United change date
WEIRTON — The Weirton Chapter of Church Women United will not hold its monthly meeting on Friday, church officials announced.
Clothing items that were to be donated by the women will now be collected from noon to 1 p.m. Dec. 18 at Shiloh Apostolic Faith Assembly Church, located at 3000 Weir Ave. Due to there not being a December meeting, the group will next meet at 11 a.m. Jan. 16 at Eat n’ Park on Three Springs Drive in Weirton. Updates will continue as received, officials noted.
Commissioner of agriculture to speak
NEW MANCHESTER — Kent Leonhardt, commissioner of agriculture, will be at the New Manchester Fire Hall at 11 a.m. Saturday to speak on agriculture in West Virginia and to answer questions from the audience. The event is open to the public and sponsored by the Hancock County Farm Bureau.
Democratic Women to meet
STEUBENVILLE — The Jefferson County Democratic Women will hold its next meeting at 6 p.m. Dec. 11 at Eat n’ Park in Steubenville.
Christmas craft offered for seniors
FOLLANSBEE — Brooke High School art students will be at the Brooke County Senior Center at 10 a.m. Dec. 12 to work with seniors in creating a Christmas craft.
