Library offering e-mail alerts

Brooke County Public Libraries in Wellsburg and Follansbee are offering patrons free Wowbrary e-mail alerts. These alerts showcase the libraries’ newest arrivals every week.

Alerts feature the latest bestsellers, as well as other books, movies, music, audio books, children’s titles, cookbooks and additional items which are purchased by the library.

“People are truly amazed when they see in one place just how many great new titles we purchase each week, which they can reserve and borrow at no cost,” stated Alexandra Schneider, the libraries’ director. “And we cover all age groups and many diverse interests.”

Schneider explained the alerts are a convenient and quick way for people to be able to see what is new at the Wellsburg and Follansbee libraries, as well as whether an item has been checked out or not — and all from the convenience of their home.

Kim Harless, the libraries’ director of educational programs, stated, “It only takes a mouse click to see the newest arrivals appropriate for your child or teen. There are separate sections and handy links for finding more items you may find interesting.”

Wowbrary alerts are free of charge and do not require possessing a library card.

Curated lists are available and can be viewed on the libraries’ website at brookecountylibs.org/readinglists.

Preschoolers invited to program

WELLSBURG — The Brooke County Public Library is inviting parents to enroll their preschool-aged child in the 1,000 Books before Kindergarten reading program.

The program involved parents making a record of the books they have read with their child.

Those participating will have a chance to receive a ready-for-school bag when the time comes for the child to enter that chapter in their life, officials stated. Each child will be recognized on a wall at the library. A sticker will be added by their name every time he or she completes a reading level.

The program is being offered free of charge.
