Kiwanis Club visits pupils
The Kiwanis Club of Steubenville held its annual holiday Christmas party for first graders attending East Garfield Elementary School on Dec. 18. Members of the Key Club at Steubenville High School were on hand to help with the students. To begin the party, children were treated to ice cream sandwiches. Afterward, Decklyn Scott, an education curator from the Oglebay Good Zoo, brought in three animals for students to see, including a tortoise, an armadillo and a ferret. For many of the pupils, it was their first opportunity seeing a zoo animal. Scott described each animal to those in attendance and answered each child’s questions. At the end of the event, Kiwanians Tom Timmons, Mike Gray and Paul Brandt passed out items to each pupil for Christmas, including a sweatshirt, crayons and “terrific kid” pencil.
