Sponsors sought for ‘Hosanna’
WEIRTON — Cove United Presbyterian Church in Weirton will hold performances of “Hosanna! The Rock Opera,” on March 20-22 and March 27-29.
During the 1990s and early 2000s, “Hosanna! The Rock Opera,” had been a fixture in the Weirton community. A small-scale Easter performance was held at St. Paul Church. It soon grew into a major production that involved several denominations and included a large and diverse cast and crew. Audiences grew from a few hundred to thousands, according to officials who said, “The performance nurtured a message of community, belonging and Christ’s sacrifice for us.”
“The last performance was given in 2003, ending more than a decade of a shared passion, unity and joy amongst hundreds of community members,” organizers added. “Many of those who were involved felt a sense of loss after the performances ended, leaving community members to face a world that seems to offer little respite and comfort for those afflicted with difficulties.”
The production was resurrected in 2023-24, when the community came together and faced the challenges of today in a positive way, spreading the message that in Christ and in each other, we are not alone.
“Doing a production like this is not without costs,” officials stated. “Please consider joining us in our mission to change the lives of our community by delivering a positive message of love and belonging to those who need it.”
Officials are seeking the community’s help, asking those interested in purchasing a program ad or in attending an upcoming performance, to aid in delivering a message that began long ago, in Galilee … a message that longs to be heard in the Ohio Valley again.
Five tiers of sponsorship are available, including: Believers, $50, a business card-sized ad in black and white; Men and Women of Galilee, $150, a quarter-page ad in black and white and admission for six to the Friends and Family Night at 7 p.m. March 19; Apostles, $250, a half-page ad in black and white and admission for six to the Friends and Family Night at 7 p.m. March 19; Angels of Heaven, $500, a full-page ad in black and white and admission for six to the Friends and Family Night at 7 p.m. March 19; and Kingdom of Heaven, $750, a program cover ad either in the inside front, inside back or back cover, in color, along with admission for six to the Friends and Family Night at 7 p.m. March 19.
