Veterans commission to meet
STEUBENVILLE — The regular monthly meeting of the Veterans Service Commission of Jefferson County will be held at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday.
The meeting will take place at 500 Market St., Suite 310 in Steubenville.
All veterans and interested parties are welcome to attend.
Brilliant Legion fish frys resume
BRILLIANT — The Brilliant American Legion has resumed its weekly fish frys following a brief holiday break. The first event resumes Friday and will run through April 24.
The menu will include a choice of Coleman’s fish, chicken planks, shrimp, wing dings or fish nuggets. All of these can be purchased as dinners or smaller portion baskets.
Dinners come with bread, french fries and coleslaw. Onion rings can be substituted for an additional $1. Other menu items include french fries, onion rings, hush puppies, mozzarella sticks and hot or mild cheese balls. The hours of operation are from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Orders can be called in to (740) 598-3515. The Legion is located at 210 Market St. in Brilliant. Limited delivery will be available.
Ohio candidates to visit area
RAYLAND — Amy Acton, the Democratic candidate running for Ohio governor, will visit Buckeye Local High School at 5 p.m. Saturday. Doors will open at 4:30 p.m.
The event will include an appearance by David Pepper, former Ohio Democratic Party Chairman and a candidate running for the position of Ohio’s lieutenant governor. Those planning to attend are encouraged to bring friends and family. Officials are hoping for a large turnout for this meet-and-greet experience. For information, call or text (740) 346-9922.
Soup and sandwich fundraiser set
WELLSBURG — The Altar and Rosary Society of St. John Evangelist Church, will hold a soup and sandwich fundraiser beginning at 11 a.m. Wednesday. The sale will continue until all of the food has been sold. Patrons will have their choice of dining in or carrying out their purchases.
Wednesday’s menu will include: Ham and bean soup with cornbread, chicken noodle soup, stuffed pepper soup, chicken salad croissants, Italian roast beef sandwiches and Italian hoagies.
An assortment of desserts will be available for purchase as well. Orders can be phoned in any time after 11 a.m. by calling (304) 737-8051. Pickup orders will be at the church, located at 1300 Charles St. in Wellsburg.
The members of the Altar and Rosary wish to thank all those who continue to support its fundraisers.
Small Farm Conference set
WOOSTER — The Ohio State Small Farm Team will host its New and Small Farm Conference March 14 at the Shisler Conference Center in Wooster. The event aims to help new and small-scale farmers across the state develop profitable, sustainable farms through education, networking and access to university and industry resources.
“The Small Farm Conference is an incredible opportunity for Ohio’s new and small farm community to connect, learn and grow together,” said Sabrina Schirtzinger, team member.
Attendees can look forward to a comprehensive lineup of educational sessions, hands-on demonstrations and networking opportunities designed for new and small-scale farmers. Workshops will address topics such as sustainable production methods, marketing strategies, land and resource management, diversification options and funding opportunities for farm development. Keynote speaker Michael Kilpatrick will discuss proven approaches to sustainable farm strategies for thriving in modern agriculture.
Participants will have the chance to connect with Ohio State University Extension educators, experienced producers and agricultural industry experts who can offer guidance and practical tools for success. Whether exploring a new business venture or aiming to strengthen an existing operation, the conference will provide valuable insights to help farmers succeed in a rapidly-changing agricultural environment.
“Each year we bring farmers, educators and industry experts together to share practical knowledge and innovative ideas that strengthen local agriculture,” Schirtzinger stated. “We’re excited to see the continued energy and creativity that participants will bring to the 2026 conference this March.”

Black History Month at museum
WEIRTON — The Weirton Area Museum and Cultural Center, located at 3149 Main St., will celebrate Black History Month. Information featuring musicians, athletes, community leaders, historical events and other subjects will be on display. The museum is open on Fridays and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Soup and sandwich sale set
WEIRTON — The Weirton American Legion Auxiliary will hold a soup and sandwich sale from noon to 2 p.m. Saturday at the post, located at 3140 Pennsylvania Ave. in Weirton.
Soups to be sold will include potato soup, pasta e fagioli, wedding soup, stuffed pepper soup, chili and ham and bean soup with cornbread.
Sandwiches will include barbecued ham sandwiches, egg salad, ham salad and meatball. Desserts will be available for sale as well.
The event is open to the public.
Quarts of soup will be sold for $9 each.
