Veterans commission to meet

STEUBENVILLE — The regular monthly meeting of the Veterans Service Commission of Jefferson County will be held at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday. The meeting will take place at 500 Market St., Suite 310 in Steubenville.

All veterans and interested parties are welcome to attend.

Drawing to help humane foundation

STEUBENVILLE — A Valentine’s Day drawing to benefit the Hancock County Humane Foundation will take place Saturday live on Facebook from 7 Ranges Entertainment.

The winner will receive an autographed Travis Kelce football jersey from the Kansas City Chiefs’ player.

Tickets are $20 each and can be purchased at 7 Ranges Entertainment, located at the Fort Steuben Mall or online at paypal.com/ncp/payment/B27MQP2LYANGE. PayPal or Venmo is accepted.

Proceeds from the drawing will benefit the humane foundation, an organization dedicated to rescuing, caring for and helping stray or unwanted cats.

Officials with 7 Ranges noted this nonprofit is one close to their hearts and the business wanted to do something to help those who help animals.

The winner does not need to be present to collect the prize.

Brunch on the Farm event set

STEUBENVILLE — The Jefferson County Chamber of Commerce has announced the second-annual Jefferson County Brunch on the Farm event is scheduled for July 18 at Harmon Kithcart Farms.

The event offers guests an opportunity to see first-hand about farm life, according to officials.

This unique educational event celebrates local agriculture and highlights the intersection of food production, conservation and technology.

Last year’s event drew approximately 500 community members of all ages, and officials are anticipating even greater participation this year.

Sponsorships help keep admission free and accessible, covering costs for advertising, educational materials and outdoor amenities.

Library to show film

WELLSBURG — The Follansbee Library will show the movie “Small Things Like These,” rated PG-13, at noon on Friday.

The film focuses on a coal merchant working to support his family and discovers disturbing secrets kept by the local convent. The merchant uncovers truths of his own, which forces him to confront his past and the complicit silence of a small Irish town controlled by the Catholic Church.

Attendees can bring their lunch to watch the movie. Popcorn and water will be provided.

Book club to meet

WELLSBURG — A group of friends, a good book and free-flowing discussion. These are the ingredients that could make for a wonderful experience at the Brooke County Public Library.

Book club will meet at 5 p.m. Feb. 26 in-person and virtually to discuss the book “Unearthing,” by W.C. Robertson.

Members will receive the book for March at the meeting. The club is free to attend and is open to the public.

Livestock emergency event set

STEUBENVILLE — Livestock producers and farm owners are invited to attend Livestock Emergency Vet Box, an educational program designed to help farmers prepare for livestock health emergencies when a veterinarian is not immediately available.

The program will be led by Janessa Hill, Ohio State University Extension Agriculture and Natural Resources educator in Holmes County.

During the program, participants will learn what to know and what to have on hand in the event of livestock disease or traumatic injury.

Attendees will be guided through the key components of building an effective livestock emergency kit based on recommendations from Ohio large animal veterinarians.

Those in attendance will have the option to receive credit for beef quality assurance.

Two sessions will be offered to accommodate different schedules.

The first afternoon session will run from 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. March 5 at the Public Library of Steubenville and Jefferson County’s Main Library branch, located at 407 S. Fourth St. in Steubenville.

An evening session will be held from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. March 5 at the Puskarich Public Library in the Coal Museum Theater, located at 200 E. Market St. in Cadiz.
