The keynote speaker will be Kristine Culp, dean of the Disciples Divinity House and associate professor of theology at the University of Chicago.

Founder’s Day celebrates the institution’s founding in 1840 and honors the legacy of founder Alexander Campbell.

This year’s observance coincides with the 160th anniversary of Campbell’s death, adding historical depth to an already meaningful occasion, officials commented.

Activities will include breakfast foods and beverages at Decima’s Cafe, Bethany Memorial Church, historical exhibits focusing on the women of Bethany, 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.; convocation, Commencement Hall, keynote speaker’s address, 11 a.m.; a luncheon in Phillips Lounge at noon; and a wreath-laying ceremony in Campbell Cemetery, 1 p.m.

For those unable to attend in person, the convocation will be live-streamed on Bethany’s Facebook page and a recording will be posted online following the event at bethanywv.edu/event/founders-day-convocation-3.

The event will take place at 1:30 p.m. March 8 at the center, located at 647 Gas Valley Road in New Cumberland.

“This quarter auction combines affordable bidding with a powerful purpose — supporting women in need throughout the community,” organizers stated.

Doors will open at 12:30 p.m. Admission is $5 and includes one bidding paddle.

Attendees who bring in a donation for women in need will receive a free paddle as a thank you, with one free paddle per person. Additional paddles will be available for $1 each.
