Oglebay Institute announces events

WHEELING– The Oglebay Institute has announced several upcoming events for the community to enjoy throughout the winter. The events will be held at the Stifel Fine Arts Center. To purchase tickets or make reservations for any and all event, call (304) 242-7700.

• The bluegrass band Old Hometown will perform at 7 p.m. Feb. 7. Presented by the Mountain Moon Coffeehouse, doors will open at 6:30 p.m., with music to begin at 7 p.m. Admission is $20 or $15 for Oglebay Institute members. Admission includes coffee, tea and light snacks. Beer, wine, soft drinks and merchandise will be available for purchase. Seats are on a first-come, first-served basis.

• Celebrate Valentine’s Day in style with a five-course dinner and wine pairings. Dinner will be held at 6:30 p.m. Friday. The 100-year-old former Edemar mansion was home of one of Wheeling’s most prominent families and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

The cost is $80 or $75 for Oglebay Institute members.

• Jazz at the Stifel will present the Alexander Peck Trio on Feb. 14. Featuring Donna Peck, the performance will begin at 8 p.m. All tickets are $25. Additional jazz performances will include the Curtis Johnson Quartet, March 14; and the Jenny Wilson Trio, April 11.

• The Towngate Theater will present When Harry Met Sally at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 20. Movie tickets will be $8 each. Those attending the movie only will not need to make reservations.

Moviegoers will have the option to have dinner in Towngate’s social room prior to the screening. Those interested in attending the pre-screening dinner can do so at the cost of $30 per person. The price includes dinner at 6:30 p.m., a movie ticket and popcorn, along with coffee and tea. The menu for the evening includes: Baked steak or salmon, red parsley potatoes, California blend veggies, garden salad and peanut butter cake. Reservations are required and must be made by 5 p.m. Feb. 18.
