Public library to host venue during America 250’s Ohio Goes to the Movies

STEUBENVILLE — The Public Library of Steubenville and Jefferson County has announced it has been selected to serve as an official host venue during the Ohio Goes to the Movies signature event as part of America 250-Ohio.

The library system presented its first of several events this year on Thursday at the Adena Library branch, joining communities in all 88 counties in celebrating Ohio’s impact on film. The event runs from February through October.

“The library is excited to bring the community together through movies with this statewide celebration,” stated Public Relations Coordinator Jenn Cesta.

“The Ohio Valley has contributed to the state’s film heritage and this project allows us to share it in a big way,” Cesta added.

The library will be showcasing a movie at each of its Jefferson County branches.

In addition, the library has created a space for movies to be shown in two outdoor community locations.

Visit the library’s website for a listing of the movies that will take place from February until September.

While supplies last, the library will hand out a bag filled with keepsakes at each movie event.

Ohio Goes to the Movies is a collaborative statewide initiative highlighting Ohio’s role in cinema — from films that were shot in the state to Ohio-born stars, directors and crews.

Visitors can explore the various Ohio initiatives at OhioGoestotheMovies.org.

Among the offerings on the site are the Ohio Movie Database listing more than 1,500 Ohio film connections, a “Coming 2026” trailer featuring Ohio native Beverly D’Angelo, a monthly digital magazine featuring stories, interviews and trivia celebrating Ohio’s cinematic legacy; and official OGTTM social media channels on Facebook and Instagram.

The United States is celebrating its semiquincentennial — the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence, with each state planning its own commemoration of the nation’s founding and its citizens’ contributions. Ohio’s celebration will highlight how Ohioans have shaped America’s past, present and future.
